What You’ll Be Doing

As the Sr. Data Analyst, Client Investment Risk, you will be supporting the Senior Director and Directors of Client Investment Risk.  Client Investment Risk focuses on overseeing investment risks specifically in CIBC’s Asset Management, Private Wealth Management, CIBC Trust, and Imperial Service businesses. This structure supports effective risk governance and safeguards the bank’s interests across diverse operations.

You will support the Senior Director, Client Investment Risk by consolidating information for reports and presentations required for governance committees. You will also assist the Director, Client Investment Risk in overseeing risks related to CIBC’s full-service brokerage, direct investing, and retail investment activities, as well as proactively identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating investment risks across portfolios managed by CIBC Asset Management (CAM) and CIBC Trust.

Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining dashboards and databases to support risk metric reporting, and for managing team trackers, documentation, procedures, and meeting schedules to ensure effective communication and coordination.

How you'll succeed

  • Compliance- As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.
  • Change - As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analysis – provide meaningful analysis of investment risk subjects by supporting the Client Investment Risk Team on investment risk subjects.
  • Relationship Management - Regular interactions with Wealth Management businesses, especially CIBC Asset Management and CIBC Wood Gundy as well as, Infrastructure partners, including Legal, Compliance and Internal Audit and other Risk Management groups, such as Global Operational Risk Management.
  • Governance Committee Reporting and Presentation - Assist the Senior Director,  Client Investment Risk by consolidating information for reports and presentations to support active participation in key governance committees, including the New Product Review Working Team, Risk Rating Committee, Investment Advisory Committee, Investment Controls Committee, and Valuation Committee. This role ensures timely and accurate preparation of materials for effective decision-making.
  • Asset Management and Trust Investment Risk Oversight - Support the Director, Investment Risk by monitoring and evaluating the performance and risk of CIBC Asset Management and CIBC Trust portfolios, ensuring compliance with investment guidelines.  Responsibilities also include managing seed capital, extracting and analyzing data for dashboards, and supporting the onboarding and oversight of First Nations clients.
  • Risk Data Integration, Management, and Reporting Automation - Develop and maintain robust dashboards and databases to support risk metric reporting for committees, projects, team initiatives, and ad-hoc needs. Key responsibilities include extracting, transforming, and loading data from multiple sources into SQL Server; building actionable and insightful dashboards using Power BI; and automating data updates and processes with Python and SQL. Additionally, ensure comprehensive documentation of all data sources, calculations, and dashboard functionalities to support transparency and maintainability of all production activities.

  • You can demonstrate experience in SQL, VBA, Python and other programming languages, database management, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and experience in using visualization tools to build Tableau/Power BI dashboards.
  • You can demonstrate knowledge of: Wealth Management businesses, Modern Portfolio Theory, performance attribution, financial markets and instruments, and the Canadian investment industry’s regulatory environment (e.g. OSFI, OSC, CIRO)
  • You have an analytical mindset with the ability to aggregate, manipulate, synthesize and summarize large amounts of data
  • You have superior verbal and written communication skills sufficient to convey complex information to a variety of audiences and levels
