Calian Group is creating a U.S. subsidiary that will focus on delivering solutions with federal government and defense applications.

Founded in 1982, Calian is based out of Ottawa and provides government and business clients with technology and expertise in areas like communication, cybersecurity, engineering and enterprise IT. The new subsidiary’s formation is expected to give the U.S. market access to the full scope of Calian’s defense capabilities, according to a news release.

Leanna Smith-Ryland, who brings more than 20 years of communication and defense experience, will serve as president for Calian US, Inc. She previously led Calian Pacific Teleport, helping to spearhead its global expansion.

“The decision to strengthen our U.S. footprint underscores our confidence in what we can offer and our commitment to delivering leading-edge learning, communications and connectivity solutions positioning the U.S. for continued mission success,” Calian Group CEO Kevin Ford said in a statement.
