HB Studios is a driving force in the creation of sports video games and the studio behind PGA TOUR 2K Golf – presently working on Console and PC. We have an opportunity for a 3D Animator to join our team of developers, creators, and fans, who are passionate about the art and process involved in video game development.
As a 3D Animator, you will work with a team of professionals to build and maintain top quality animation that breathes life into one of the fastest growing sports game series in the industry!
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Create high-quality animation and collaborate across disciplines to meet project and aesthetic goals set out by production and leads.
- Build realistic human motion for gameplay and cinematics by editing and layering motion capture data.
- Animate props using rigging and constraint systems.
- Hand-key facial rigs and polish facial mocap data.
- Work within the game engine and pipeline to ensure all completed assets are in a build-ready format.
- Maintain a high level of quality within design and technical constraints while optimizing for performance.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers on the implementation, troubleshooting, and debugging of animation systems.
- Respond to direction with an open mind and an eagerness to refine character animation to ensure the highest quality and best fit for the game.
- Identify self-directed learning opportunities and provide input to improve animation production methods, tools, and techniques.
- Build positive working relationships and actively participate in team meetings.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Typically, 2 to 4+ years of industry experience in 3D animation.
- A solid understanding of human body mechanics and locomotion.
- Proven technical proficiency with Maya or MotionBuilder.
- Experience working with motion capture data and modern game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engines).
- Familiarity with source control software (Perforce or Git).
- Technical knowledge of rigging and skinning is considered a plus.
