Responsible for messaging, marketing content development, and input into go-to-market strategies targeting industry verticals such as Cable MSO, Education, Energy, and Government, positioning Ciena as a thought leader, reputable supplier, and partner. Role requires close collaboration with Portfolio Marketing, Field Marketing, Product Line Management, and Global Customer Engagement teams to maximize success of customer engagement, drive thought leadership through a range of marketing channels, serve as a subject matter expert on market sizing and opportunity assessment, and support external communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic:

  • Develop and implement industry vertical-specific marketing strategies, collaborating with Field Marketing, Sales, Market & Competitive Intelligence, and the Global Partner organizations
  • Communicate market intelligence and competitive positioning insights to key stakeholders, including Sales, Portfolio Marketing, and Strategy teams
  • Create target vertical messaging for media and industry analyst audiences, as well as for global awareness and regional lead generation programs and industry events
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in key technology areas that help shape Ciena’s vision of network evolution

Operational:

  • Use market, customer, and competitive data to develop appropriate messaging for target verticals
  • Build relationships, lead, and influence internal/external vertical customers and external partners
  • Create value propositions and technical benefits to target vertical customers and partners, globally
  • Support Field Marketing teams, Global Marketing teams, and Global Partner Organization teams

Tactical:

  • Identify and target vertical market trends, challenges, opportunities, and competitor weaknesses
  • Drive marketing strategy and messaging, and serve as a resource to Sales at select vertical tradeshows, industry forums, and analyst events
  • Support the creation of compelling digital content targeted and written for key verticals
  • Liaise regularly with Product Line Management, Sales, Services, R&D, and the greater Marketing and Communications team

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge base of routing, switching, and optical technologies and associated markets
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Highly effective executive-level presentation and communications skills
  • Excellent writing skills for creating and editing content such as blogs, white papers, presentations, success stories, business/marketing plans, and case studies

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of a breadth of enterprise verticals, including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, transportation is a plus
  • Takes initiative and proposes innovative solutions to marketing and sales enablement challenges
  • Team player who works well with customers, analysts, partners, and cross-functional colleagues
  • Experience working with channel sales, partners, and sales enablement organizations
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to drive deliverables and initiatives to closure
  • Flexible individual capable of handling multiple tasks and with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel to customer meetings and industry tradeshow support, as required

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum is a Bachelor's degree, a Master’s degree a plus

PAY RANGE:

The salary range for this role in Canada is $96, 300 - $153, 800

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
