At GHGSat, we're on a mission to map and track the world's greenhouse gas (GHG) emitters. We achieve this by operating our own satellite and aircraft sensors to collect crucial emissions data, which we combine with third-party data to power our advanced analytics pipeline. This pipeline is instrumental in:

  • Identifying and classifying potential GHG emitters: Pinpointing sources with precision.
  • Detecting and quantifying GHG emissions: Providing accurate measurements of impact.
  • Generating valuable insights for our customers: Delivering actionable intelligence that drives environmental and business outcomes.

Our analytics pipeline is supported by a structured, distributed datastore an asset containing acquired data, intermediate artifacts, and pipeline outputs. This datastore holds marketable and saleable information, offering significant interest to third-party analysts and aggregators.

The Opportunity:

We're seeking a visionary and hands-on Analytics Lead who will be instrumental in building, scaling, and optimizing our analytics capabilities. Reporting to the VP of Software (based in Ottawa, Canada), you will build and lead a high-performing team of technical experts and subject matter experts to expand the geographical and industrial reach of our analytics offerings.

You'll be the architect and builder of our next-generation data platform working to implement & scale an advanced analytical solution. While your primary focus will be on the technical excellence and scalability of our data assets, you'll also partner closely with our Product team, ensuring these powerful data capabilities directly translate into innovative product features and meet evolving customer needs. This role is for a technical leader who thrives on solving complex data challenges and understands how foundational data systems drive product innovation.

What You'll Do:

  • Technical Leadership & Hands-on Development: Provide deep technical expertise and guidance, serving as both a leader and a key contributor in building, optimizing, and maintaining our analytics offering from data ingestion to insight generation.
  • Innovate Data Sources & Algorithms: Identify, evaluate, and champion new data sources, cutting-edge algorithm designs, and emerging technologies that enhance our ability to detect, quantify, and predict GHG emissions. Drive the technical integration and assimilation of these innovations.
  • Optimize Datastore & Data Flow: Design, develop, and implement the seamless assimilation of data from new sources, refine pipeline algorithms, and optimize datastore mechanisms and interfaces for maximum efficiency, data integrity, and insight generation.
  • Collaborate for Product Enablement: Work closely with the Product team to understand their requirements and translate business goals into technical data development initiatives. Ensure our data capabilities proactively support and enable the creation of new product features and customer-facing solutions.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Continuously research and integrate new data technologies, design patterns, and industry trends to maintain GHGSat's competitive edge in data analytics.
  • Build & Mentor a World-Class Team: Recruit, develop, and lead a productive and successful analytics team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and career growth.
  • Communicate Technical Vision: Demonstrate strong communication skills, articulating complex technical concepts, system designs, and analytical insights clearly to all stakeholders, including executive leadership and the Product team, driving informed technical and strategic decisions.

Requirements
  • Hands-on Engineering & Architecture Experience: Extensive background as a developer, engineer, architect, or a combination thereof, with a deep understanding of modern geospatial analytical systems and reporting structures.
  • Strategic Data Vision: Demonstrated ability to define and execute a technical roadmap for data infrastructure that aligns with and enables broader organizational and product strategies.
  • Strong Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience partnering effectively with product, engineering, and other business teams to deliver data-driven solutions that meet organizational objectives.
  • Empathetic People Leadership: Strong people management skills, including a proven track record of mentoring and developing high-performing data and analytics teams.
  • Executive-Level Communication: Experience presenting complex technical and strategic information to executive leadership and boards, effectively communicating the value and impact of data initiatives.
  • Educational Background: BSc/BA in Computer Science, Data Science, or a relevant quantitative field.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain security clearance.

Benefits

This is an unparalleled opportunity to be at the forefront of environmental technology, directly contributing to a cleaner planet. You'll lead the development of cutting-edge data platforms, working with unique satellite and aircraft data. If you're a strategic technical leader passionate about building robust data infrastructure and enabling transformative product insights, we encourage you to apply!
