Position: Applications Architect

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Applications Architect to support enterprise application architecture initiatives, ensure solution design quality, and provide leadership in architecture governance and standards compliance. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing cloud-based application solutions, developing architecture artifacts, supporting architecture review processes, and ensuring alignment with organizational standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Scope

• Support the integrity of business applications and architectures.
  
• Ensure development adheres to established standards and documentation requirements.
  
• Provide leadership regarding Enterprise Architecture artifacts and support business and technical teams.
  
• Perform application design activities and architecture governance support.
  

Deliverables

• Draft solution designs and detailed technical solution designs for applications built using packaged cloud products.
  
• Develop architecture artifacts including:
  
• Business Architecture Documents
  
• Solutions Architecture Documents
  
• Solution Requirements Documents
  
• Information Architecture Documents
  
• Create visual representations of use cases and process flows while ensuring alignment across business and solution architectures.
  
• Support architecture review board activities and enterprise architecture checkpoints.
  
• Develop and maintain:
  
• Logical and Physical Data Models
  
• Data Dictionaries
  
• CRUD Matrices
  
• Document communication protocols and interfaces for external partners.
  
• Develop onboarding documentation.
  
• Assist with system and user interface design modifications.
  
• Lead cloud security assessments and develop mitigation strategies for identified risks.
  
• Review privacy and security assessment outputs and establish traceability matrices.
  
• Review test scenarios to ensure requirements are met and maintain traceability documentation.
  
• Assist with metadata and test data preparation for implementation activities.
  
• Ensure alignment with organizational processes and standards.
  
• Support system testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  
• Participate in knowledge transfer activities.
  

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge

• Experience leading IT architecture initiatives across business, technology, application, and security domains.
  
• Experience delivering architecture solutions for large-scale, complex, multi-year technology projects.
  
• Experience leading architecture governance, stage gating, and architecture review board activities.
  
• Knowledge of solution design and business analysis practices within large IT organizations.
  

Mandatory Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience.
  
• Experience using structured methodologies for design, development, implementation, and maintenance of applications.
  
• Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
  
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines.
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  
• Experience with enterprise architecture standards and artifacts.
  
• Experience using solution design and prototyping tools to facilitate design sessions and stakeholder workshops.
  

Technical Experience

• Experience designing and architecting cloud and SaaS-based applications.
  
• Experience leading technical teams to ensure architectural alignment throughout project delivery.
  
• Deep understanding of architecture patterns such as:
  
• Layered Architecture
  
• Microservices
  
• Event-Driven Architecture
  
• Expertise designing and consuming RESTful APIs and Web Services.
  
• Strong knowledge of integration patterns and tools.
  
• Strong understanding of enterprise security principles and application security best practices.
  
• Knowledge of enterprise IT strategy, business process modeling, data modeling, information management, business analysis, and process re-engineering.
  

Architecture Experience

• Experience developing business, solution, and information architectures.
  
• Experience using architecture modeling tools such as:
  
• PowerDesigner
  
• Enterprise Architect
  
• Experience creating architecture artifacts for enterprise architecture checkpoints and governance activities.
  
• Demonstrated solution design and architecture experience.
  
• Experience coordinating architecture activities across complex environments supporting internal and external stakeholders.
  
• Experience reviewing privacy and security assessment reports and ensuring findings are reflected within architecture artifacts.
  

Communication Skills

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  
• Experience preparing and presenting architecture documentation.
  
• Ability to explain architecture decisions to development, security, and infrastructure teams.
  
• Experience leading architecture reviews, design sessions, and technical workshops.
  
• Strong technical writing skills for architecture specifications, integration guides, governance policies, and design patterns.
  

Preferred Experience

• Experience working within Ontario Public Sector (OPS) environments and adhering to public-sector policies and procedures is considered an asset.
  

Knowledge Transfer

The successful candidate will participate in knowledge transfer activities, including the documentation and handoff of:

• Architecture documentation
  
• Detailed system designs
  
• Program specifications
  
• Modifications and enhancements
  
• Supporting technical documentation
