Job Description

AECOM Ottawa is actively seeking a Bridge Engineering Lead to spearhead the growth of our bridge engineering practice in the National Capital Region.

This is a senior technical leadership role ideal for someone looking to take ownership of building a local bridge team while contributing to high-profile transportation infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. A high level of initiative, leadership, and technical excellence is essential.

We are seeking a Civil Engineer with a structural specialization in bridge design—including highway, rail, and pedestrian bridges, as well as retaining walls and, potentially, movable or complex bridge structures.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and grow AECOM Ottawa’s bridge engineering presence, including business development, team mentoring, and project delivery
  • Provide technical direction and oversight on bridge projects from concept through detailed design and construction
  • Supervise and support junior engineers and technical staff
  • Develop structural designs, calculations, sketches, and working drawings
  • Conduct structural modeling and analysis using tools such as MIDAS Civil
  • Ensure quality assurance and control throughout project stages
  • Perform site visits and provide construction support, including inspections and field documentation
  • Manage data quality and project documentation
  • Support Project Managers in meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives
  • Prepare technical reports and design documentation
  • Identify and address engineering issues proactively

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in bridge engineering
  • P.Eng. designation 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideally 15+ years of bridge design experience
  • The Bridge Engineering Lead will have extensive experience in working with the City of Ottawa as a project manager/director.
  •  The Bridge Engineering Lead should also have experience in MTO assignments, being RAQS qualified. 
  • Experience working for other Ontario municipalities will be considered an asset.
  • Eligibility for an ing. designation in Québec is an asset
  • French language skills are considered an asset
  • Proficiency with MIDAS Civil and AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
