Role: Business Development Representative

Description: We’re looking for a motivated Business Development Representative (BDR) to join our growing Sales team. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to help event teams discover better ways to plan, run, and analyze their events on Salesforce. You’ll be the first human touchpoint for many of our prospects — sparking interest, identifying needs, and creating the foundation for meaningful sales conversations. In this role, you’ll play a key part in driving pipeline growth by engaging with leads through email, phone, and LinkedIn. You’ll be the first point of contact for many of our prospective customers, responsible for qualifying opportunities and setting up meetings for our Account Executives.

This isn’t a “smile and dial” job. You’ll use a modern sales stack, creative outreach, and genuine curiosity to connect with prospects. If you’re the kind of person who loves learning, iterating, and finding smarter ways to do things, you’ll fit right in.

We are currently hiring for a Canada-based team member.

Base Salary: $55,000 CAD + Commission

What you'll be doing

  • Run targeted outbound prospecting campaigns to engage potential customers in the Salesforce ecosystem.
  • Qualify inbound interest and nurture leads through personalized, data-informed outreach.
  • Schedule discovery calls and demos for Account Executives.
  • Use our robust sales tech stack — Nooks, Apollo, ChatGPT, and Salesforce — to personalize outreach, manage workflows, and track activity.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales Leadership to refine messaging, test new outreach approaches, and improve conversion rates.
  • Learn the ins and outs of event management challenges across industries and communicate how Blackthorn’s platform helps solve them.

What we look for

  • 1–2 years of experience in a sales or prospecting role (SaaS or within the Salesforce ecosystem experience a plus).
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Comfortable making outbound calls and sending personalized outreach messages.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple leads and priorities.
  • Curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn about sales, technology, and customer engagement.
  • Experience with tools like Slack, Google Suite, Salesforce, Apollo, Nooks, ChatGPT or CRM/prospecting tools is preferred.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Salesforce-native apps or event management technology. Experience engaging with higher ed or nonprofit organizations.

What we offer

  • An incredible team of smart and supportive people
  • A deep feeling of satisfaction and completion
  • Fully remote global team working from home
  • Stock options for every employee
  • Flexible work week
  • $400 office stipend
  • Maternity/Paternity leave
  • Student loan debt assistance
  • Pledge 1% - time off during the year for helping nonprofits
  • Health insurance contribution (if in the US)
  • Children's 529 college fund assistance (if in the US)

About Blackthorn

We have four native apps on the Salesforce AppExchange for managing Events, collecting Payments, sending Messages, and protecting Data. We’re a growing, distributed team with teammates in countries across the world. We move fast and have a significant structure in our product build process. Everyone on our team has deep experience within their respective roles. Our customers span from 1-person companies to Fortune 500s.

Why is our work important

Our apps continue to be easy to use and setup, due to continuous refinements with our UX. Most apps in our space take weeks to implement; ours take hours, and they work more flexibly, achieving significantly more functionality than our competitors. We believe enterprise apps should be as easy to use as consumer mobile apps.

What the job will bring you

A deep level of satisfaction through ownership of your role. You'll get more autonomy than at other companies (our team has told us). Connection. Our team is tightly knit, assisted through our annual company trip (as we're remote). Challenge. We're trying to move as quick as possible. This is not for you if you want to sit back and chill. As Ray Dalio says about life: "Meaningful work and meaningful relationships" provide meaning to life. We aim to bring this.

While we are a Remote first culture we are currently only able to accept applicants in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WA, and WI
