How You Will Contribute:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Business Intelligence Analyst to join our Product Line Management (PLM) Business Operations team. This role blends operational excellence in Power BI development with forward-looking capabilities in AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
You will design, develop, and manage dashboards and reporting solutions that deliver actionable insights into our business performance. Beyond traditional BI, you will help evolve our analytics approach by leveraging AI/ML methodologies to identify emerging trends, predict outcomes, and support strategic initiatives aimed at driving higher margins, revenue growth, and process efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for data, proficiency in BI tools, and a curiosity for applying AI/ML to business challenges. You will work collaboratively across multiple teams, ensuring alignment of data definitions, governance practices, and analytics strategies.
The Must Haves:
Business Intelligence Development & Management
- Design, build, and maintain dynamic dashboards and reports using Power BI to deliver insights into revenue, margin, and operational metrics.
- Optimize and administer existing reports, data models, and ETL pipelines to ensure accuracy, scalability, and performance.
- Apply strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to identify data challenges and develop effective solutions that improve insights and decision-making.
- Implement best practices for data visualization, usability, and storytelling.
Advanced Analytics & AI/ML Enablement
- Conduct statistical and exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities by uncovering insights from unstructured data.
- Explore and apply AI and machine learning techniques for ad hoc analyses, predictive modeling, and scenario simulations.
- Partner with stakeholders on proof-of-concept studies that harness AI/ML to improve forecasting, segmentation, process optimization, or risk detection.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Engage with finance, operations, engineering, sales, and other groups to obtain, validate, and interpret datasets.
- Collaborate with BI peers to standardize data models, drive best practices and share lessons learned across business functions.
- Work with stakeholders to define and refine KPIs aligned with strategic goals.
Ad Hoc & Strategic Reporting
- Respond quickly to priority reporting requests, delivering high-quality insights under tight deadlines.
- Support executive-level decision making with tailored analyses and presentations.
Data Integrity & Governance
- Ensure data consistency, quality, and reliability through governance best practices and robust validation processes.
- Maintain and improve data pipelines and integrations with upstream systems.
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Track, measure, and communicate the impact of initiatives and recommendations.
- Continuously enhance BI and analytics tools based on evolving business needs and technology trends.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- 3+ years in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related role.
- Proven track record of developing impactful dashboards using Power BI
- Proficiency with DAX and Power Query for advanced BI modeling.
- Strong SQL skills for data extraction and transformation.
Technical Proficiencies
- Data modeling and ETL processes.
- DAX programming language
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Programming skills in Python or R for analytics and machine learning (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, TensorFlow/PyTorch a plus).
- Familiarity with cloud data and AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure Machine Learning, Snowflake).
Soft Skills
- Excellent storytelling and visualization abilities to present data-driven conclusions to diverse stakeholders.
- Outstanding listening skills and keen attention to detail when communicating with stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
The Nice To Haves:
- Experience in Product Line Management or related business operations, ideally within the telecom/networking industry.
- Certifications:
- SQL BI: Mastering DAX (Power BI)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate or Azure Data Scientist Associate
- AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty / Google Cloud ML Engineer
- Experience with predictive analytics, time-series forecasting, or advanced statistical modeling.
The annual pay range for this position is $101,300 - $161,900 CAD
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
