The Business Management Director will design the finance operating model, prioritize initiatives, manage board materials, and oversee cross-functional projects to maximize the CFO's effectiveness.
The Impact of a Business Management Director at Coupa:
Coupa is seeking an operationally disciplined and highly adaptive Business Management Director to serve as a strategic partner to the CFO. In this capacity, you will architect and manage the operating model for the Office of the CFO, ensuring that the leadership team—comprising Finance, IT, Data, Legal, Corporate Development, and Deal Operations—is aligned with the company’s highest strategic priorities.
The ideal candidate possesses a consultative background characterized by the ability to manage diverse workstreams, navigate complex stakeholder environments with high emotional intelligence, and translate the CFO's executive agenda into a sequenced, high-impact roadmap. You will maximize the CFO’s effectiveness by overseeing the prioritization of key initiatives, driving accountability for project delivery, and owning the realization of strategic outcomes.
What You'll Do:
- Operating Model & Strategic Cadence: Design and institutionalize the "Finance Operating System"—the integrated governance cadence that ensures the global organization operates with full visibility. This includes owning the strategic calendar and facilitating leadership business reviews.
- Prioritization and Outcome-Based Accountability: Lead the process for identifying and ranking the most impactful projects across the finance organization. You will move beyond task tracking to take direct accountability for business outcomes, ensuring initiatives drive measurable P&L impact and efficiency gains.
- Cross-Functional Advocacy: Represent the Office of the CFO in enterprise-wide initiatives. As Finance is a central support function, you will ensure that the department’s projects are aligned with broader business needs and proactively support the requirements of other business units.
- Executive Sponsorship Program: Develop and maintain a standardized process for the CFO’s participation as an executive sponsor for strategic accounts, ensuring clear objectives, prepared briefings, and rigorous follow-through.
- Board of Directors Governance: Manage the end-to-end timeline for Board and Audit Committee materials, collaborating with functional leads to ensure a cohesive and accurate narrative across all presentations.
- Initiative Health & ROI Transparency: Prior to Board meetings or QBRs, conduct deep-dive status assessments of primary initiatives. Develop and maintain executive dashboards that provide real-time clarity on program health and transformation ROI.
- Strategic Time Management & Focus: Act as the primary reviewer for the CFO’s schedule and commitments, ensuring time is allocated toward the highest-leverage strategic objectives.
- Diagnostic Problem Solving: Proactively lead deep-dive diagnostic efforts on underperforming processes. Synthesize fragmented data into actionable insights and executive briefs that frame complex business questions for the CFO.
- Multidisciplinary Project Leadership: Directly oversee complex, time-sensitive projects that require coordination across multiple departments. You will apply a consultative approach—quickly getting up to speed on new topics and driving diverse teams toward a common goal.
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- Consultative Mindset: 10+ years of experience in high-impact roles (e.g., Management Consulting, Business Operations, or Strategy) where you were required to navigate varied business problems and drive outcomes in complex environments.
- High Emotional Intelligence: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and influence senior leaders across different functions without having direct authority over them.
- Versatility and Adaptability: Comfortable shifting between high-level strategic planning and the granular details of execution; a "hands-on" operator who can wear many hats.
- Analytical Synthesis: The ability to translate complex financial and operational data into clear, executive-level narratives and actionable frameworks
The estimated pay range for this role is $152,000 - $198,000
The starting salary for the successful candidate will be based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
