Position Summary
Canadian Bank Note Company (CBN) is seeking a Cloud FinOps Specialist to develop and mature cloud financial management practices across its Microsoft Azure environment. While the initial focus is on Microsoft Azure, this role offers the opportunity to expand into AWS and broader multi-cloud financial operations as CBN's cloud strategy evolves.
Acting as a key liaison between Finance, Cloud Engineering, Operations, and Product teams, this role is responsible for ensuring cloud spending is visible, accountable, predictable, and optimized. The successful candidate will establish reporting, governance, forecasting, chargeback/showback models, and continuous cost optimization practices to maximize the value of cloud investments.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Financial Management
- Develop and maintain Azure FinOps processes, controls, and reporting.
- Establish governance practices that improve cost visibility and accountability.
- Create cost management dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting.
- Define and maintain cloud tagging standards to support cost allocation.
- Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and chargeback/showback activities.
Cost Optimization
- Analyze Azure consumption trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Optimize cloud resources, including compute, storage, databases, networking, Kubernetes, and platform services.
- Manage Azure Reservations and Savings Plans.
- Partner with engineering teams to implement cost-efficient architecture and operational practices.
- Measure savings achieved and maintain ongoing optimization roadmaps.
Reporting, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Produce reports and forecasts on cloud spending and consumption trends.
- Provide cost visibility across business units, projects, products, environments, and cost centers.
- Investigate spending anomalies and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop cloud financial governance standards, policies, and guardrails.
- Participate in FinOps, Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE), and governance initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting and FinOps processes.
- Promote cost-awareness and financial accountability across technology teams.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Finance, Product Management, Cloud Engineering, Security, Operations, and Enterprise Architecture teams.
- Provide financial insight into cloud architecture, operational decisions, and cloud migration initiatives.
Mandatory Requirements
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Fluent in English (speak, read, write)
- Able to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) security clearance
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of experience in cloud operations, cloud engineering, infrastructure administration, DevOps, cloud cost management, IT financial management, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments and working with cloud cost management, reporting, or optimization activities.
- Working knowledge of Azure services, cloud consumption models, and cost governance practices.
- Experience using reporting and analysis tools such as Power BI and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, cloud financial management, FinOps, cloud governance, or IT financial management.
- One or more relevant certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), Power BI Data Analyst Associate, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise Azure environments and developing cloud budgeting, forecasting, chargeback/showback, or cost optimization programs.
- Experience participating in cloud governance, Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE), or FinOps initiatives.
- Knowledge of Azure cost management and governance tools, cloud operating models, and FinOps best practices.
- Experience building dashboards, KPI reporting, and financial analytics using tools such as Power BI.
- Experience with automation, scripting, or Infrastructure-as-Code technologies (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions).
- Exposure to AWS services, billing models, or multi-cloud environments.
