We are seeking candidates with strong foundational knowledge and practical experience in Linux, Python, Kubernetes, Ansible, Docker, Openshift, hypervisor cluster management, system configuration management tooling, and Kubernetes cluster management to strengthen our team.
Job Description

As a Platform Engineer on the Cloud Platform Engineering team, you will be a key contributor to platform development activities, with a strong emphasis on leveraging and managing containerization and orchestration technologies. You will be part of a high-velocity, results-oriented team focused on developing services, tools, and processes to support other Motorola Solutions' engineering teams and deliver solutions to customers. This role requires a highly motivated individual with deep technical expertise and a passion for automation, particularly in the areas of infrastructure as code, container orchestration, and system configuration. Your expertise in the core skills of Linux, Python, Kubernetes, Ansible, Docker, Openshift, hypervisor cluster management, system configuration management tooling, and Kubernetes cluster management will be critical to your success and will help shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise organization.
The Cloud Platform Engineering team is responsible for:

  • Design and implementation of the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline into multiple public cloud and On-prem regions, leveraging tools like Ansible and integrating with Kubernetes and Openshift.

  • Development and operation of common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutions moving forward, with a strong focus on containerized applications managed by Kubernetes and Openshift.

  • Overall reliability and security of these services and the environments they are run in, including the underlying Linux operating systems and hypervisor clusters.

  • Monitoring and support for these platform and infrastructure services, requiring strong troubleshooting skills in Linux environments and within containerized platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Network and security design and implementation of core services used by our Public Safety solutions, with consideration for container networking in Kubernetes and Openshift.

  • Support platform operations and sovereign operations, including in-depth issue troubleshooting and resolution within Linux environments, containerized applications (Docker), and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Openshift).

  • Define and meet scalability, availability, security, and performance goals for containerized applications and the underlying infrastructure, including hypervisor clusters.

  • Rapidly build and evolve major features in collaboration with product management, utilizing your expertise in Python for scripting and automation, and Ansible for configuration management.

  • Research and experiment with key technologies, architectures, and standards, particularly in the evolving landscape of containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes, Openshift), and infrastructure automation (Ansible).

  • Attend daily stand-up meetings, collaborate with peers, prioritize features, and work with a sense of urgency to deliver value to customers, often involving the deployment and management of containerized applications.

  • Assist in reviews and audits conducted at various points in the software life cycle, ensuring adherence to best practices for system configuration management and container orchestration.

  • Develop quality scalable, tested, and reliable applications using industry best practices, with a strong emphasis on utilizing Python for development and automation, and ensuring containerization and orchestration are implemented effectively.

  • Manage and maintain hypervisor clusters (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to support the underlying infrastructure for our platform services.

  • Implement and manage system configuration using relevant tooling to ensure consistency and reliability across our environments.

  • Design, implement, and manage Kubernetes cluster environments for container orchestration.
