About the Role
Metergy is seeking a skilled and business-minded Contracts Manager to join our Legal Department.
In this role, you will be a key part of commercial contracting for a fast-paced, sales-focused legal department. You will draft, redline, negotiate, and close a high volume of agreements across Canada and the United States. You will improve speed to signature while protecting Metergy’s risk position and standard terms.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role that works closely with both the Legal team and cross-functional business units including Sales, Sales Enablement and Operations.
The ideal candidate is a skilled contracts professional with a unique blend of legal, technical, and operational expertise, gained through experience as a contracts manager or working within a legal department. A deep understanding of contracts, legal processes and workflows, and technology-enabled solutions is essential.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end contract lifecycle from intake to signature, including drafting, redlining, negotiation, approvals and execution.
- Review and revise complex agreements, balancing risk, business priorities, and stakeholder feedback.
- Draft first-instance agreements and complex amendments without templates when needed.
- Prepare clear and concise contract summaries for business stakeholders.
- Triage and prioritize requests using intake rules and SLAs. Set expectations with stakeholders and communicate status proactively.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve contract playbooks, clause libraries, contract templates, and other knowledge-sharing resources.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Sales, Sales Enablement and business teams to align contract terms with company policies and risk standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to track, manage, and improve the contract intake and review process.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in contract management with heavy drafting and negotiation ownership in a law firm, corporate legal team or vendor-side environment.
- Experience managing the full lifecycle of commercial contracts, including drafting, redlining, negotiating, and executing agreements.
- Expert drafting skills. You write in plain English, structure clauses cleanly, and reconcile comments accurately.
- Negotiation strength. You can explain the business impact of terms, propose practical alternatives, and close issues efficiently.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong business judgment, urgency, and organization. You manage a high volume of matters and keep stakeholders unblocked.
- Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaborate successfully in a team environment.
- Familiarity with core risk areas: indemnity, limitation of liability, warranties, service levels and credits, data protection and privacy, subcontracting, insurance, IP, assignment and change of control, termination, and governing law.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Microsoft Word power-user. You are fluent with styles, multilevel numbering, cross-references, compare, track changes etiquette, document cleanup, and formatting remediation. Comfortable with DOCX to PDF conversion, Adobe Acrobat tools, and e-signature platforms.
- Experience with CLM tools is an asset.
