The Controller will manage the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This role is pivotal in driving financial performance by analyzing key metrics, implementing strong internal controls, and supporting cross-departmental strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented leader with a proven track record in financial management within fast-paced environments, preferably in eCommerce or retail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and present month-end financial reporting packages for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Present financial results and insights to senior management to inform strategic decisions.
  • Supervise daily accounting activities including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of accounting records.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors and coordinate audit processes, implementing recommendations as needed.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial strategies that align with company goals.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational improvements.
  • Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Delegate responsibilities, set clear performance objectives, and provide regular feedback.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Oversee the integration of financial systems with eCommerce platforms and other operational software.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to support financial operations.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management position.
  • Prior experience in an eCommerce or retail environment is strongly desirable.
  • Experience in a startup environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial modeling is an asset.
  • Experience in cash flow forecasting, consolidations, and intercompany transfer pricing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to risk management and process improvement.
