We’re looking for a Controller who thrives in complexity and enjoys building financial foundations that scale. This is a hands-on role for someone who values accuracy, strong controls, and clear data — and wants to help shape how Phoenix grows.
In this role, you’ll own our accounting, tax planning, insurance, and inventory management operations end to end, ensuring our numbers are right, our processes are tight, and our systems can keep up with a fast-moving, operationally complex business. You’ll partner closely with the CFO to support confident, data-driven decision-making and contribute to the forecasting process.
This role interacts cross-functionally with our Operations and Pharmacy teams to ensure financial data flows cleanly across inventory, payments, payroll, and accounting systems. You’ll also manage accounting across multiple entities, leading intercompany accounting and reconciliations to support clear, consolidated reporting as we scale.
What You’ll DoManage Phoenix’s bookkeeping team
Own all aspects of Phoenix’s accounting function, including financial reporting, controls, operational finance, tax, and audit readiness
Lead accounting across multiple legal entities, including intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations
Own inventory accounting end-to-end, including valuation, reconciliation, reserves, and cost-of-goods-sold analysis
Maintain and evolve financial and accounting systems to support scale and complexity
Build, document, and enforce accounting policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE
Lead the year-end audit and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors
Oversee AR, AP, payroll, expense reimbursements, and the monthly close process
Partner with external tax advisors to manage income tax, sales tax, and other required filings
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in close partnership with FP&A and department leads
Analyze financial results, trends, margins, costs, and inventory performance — and clearly communicate insights
Support supply and demand forecasting with a focus on inventory efficiency and working capital optimization
Identify opportunities to improve gross margin, cash flow, and operational scalability
Build financial models, analyses, and presentations to support leadership, board, and investor decision-making
Support non-dilutive funding initiatives, including grant and loan applications and reporting
Assist with due diligence and execution of equity, debt, or strategic transactions
4 - 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
CPA designation required
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
Strong technical accounting foundation, with hands-on experience in inventory accounting
Experience managing accounting across multiple legal entities
Prior experience in a start-up, scale-up, or small business environment
Comfortable owning the details while keeping an eye on the bigger picture
Strong Excel skills, with the ability to build clear, structured analyses and models
Excellent communication skills — able to explain complex financial concepts simply and clearly
Highly organized, intellectually curious, and comfortable working independently
Able to move quickly, reprioritize as needed, and adapt as the business scales
Nice to have:
Audit experience
Experience in CPG, food, foodtech, healthcare, or other regulated industries
Experience with Quickbooks Online
