Hourly Rate:

AE-RA-Tuteur / TA-RA-Tutor : $31.89 ou/or $50.25 (2024-2025)

The academic year starts on September 1 and ends on August 31.

Undergraduate students will be paid at the lower rate; while graduate students will be paid at the higher rate.

These rates do not included vacation pay nor statutory pay.

These rates will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified. Retro will be paid after the ratification.

Requirements and Nature of Work:

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will:

1. Review Faculty of Education and related academic unit websites at universities across Canada and the United States to identify scholars whose research expertise aligns with the scope of the Canadian Journal of Education.

2. Gather and enter relevant information for prospective reviewers, including institutional affiliation, academic position, areas of research expertise, and other information required for the Journal’s reviewer database.

3. Review and update information for scholars already included in the reviewer database, including changes to institutional affiliation, academic position, research interests, and contact information where appropriate.

4. Identify gaps in the existing reviewer database and assist in expanding the range of disciplinary, methodological, and substantive areas of expertise represented.

Support the organization, verification, and maintenance of reviewer records to improve the accuracy and usefulness of the database.

5. Collaborate regularly with the Journal’s Anglophone Co-Editors to establish priorities, review progress, and identify scholars or areas of expertise requiring additional attention.

Undertake related research and editorial support tasks associated with strengthening the Journal’s peer-review process.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have:

Strong research and online information-search skills.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Experience working with databases, spreadsheets, or other forms of structured information management.

Familiarity with academic research and university environments, preferably in education or a related field.

An ability to identify and summarize scholars’ areas of research expertise from university profiles, publications, and related academic sources.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

An ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with an editorial team.

Strong written communication skills in English.

Knowledge of the Canadian educational research community, scholarly publishing, peer review, or academic journals would be considered an asset.
