Reporting directly to the Director of Retail Sales the position of Customer Development Manager (CDM)
requires a sales professional capable of selling the full line of McCain Retail Products and is responsible for driving growth, profitability, and strategic partnerships with key retail customers. This role requires strong relationship management, a deep understanding of category and market trends, and the ability to develop and execute customer-specific business plans.
Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans to drive sales, revenue, and profitability.
  • Manage the full portfolio, collaborating cross-functionally with Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain to align on customer strategies and execution.
  • Optimize trade spend and promotional budgets to maximize ROI and ensure financial accountability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including buyers, category managers, and senior decision-makers.
  • Identify growth opportunities within accounts and implement initiatives to drive incremental sales and market share.
  • Deliver compelling sales presentations using data-driven insights to support recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting and demand planning in partnership with Supply Chain and Operations.
  • Track key performance metrics and provide data-driven recommendations to optimize business results.
  • Lead customer meetings, including quarterly business reviews, top-to-tops, and joint business planning sessions.
  • Drive customer negotiations in collaboration with Finance and Sales Strategy, focusing on pricing, promotions, and supply timing.
  • Oversee product launches and store-level execution to ensure success.
  • Utilize customer data and analytics tools to assess business performance and maximize ROI.

Qualifications:

  • University or College degree in Business, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 5+ years of CPG sales experience with a proven track record of managing National or Key Accounts (Loblaw/SDM preferred but, not mandatory).
  • Experience in trade marketing, category management, and data analytics (e.g., Nielsen, LDIA, IRI, internal POS data).
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills with a history of driving revenue growth.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to manage a full business portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence customers and collaborate across departments.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented team environment.


Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.


About the team.
This role is part of the Canadian Retail Sales Team, responsible for managing sales, trade marketing, and key customer relationships across the Grocery, Mass, and Drug channels in Canada.
As a critical driver of growth, our team ensures Canadians can find their favorite products-like our iconic fries-on retailer shelves. This Toronto-based role oversees the Loblaw/Shoppers Drug Mart business, includes one direct report, and plays a key role in shaping strategy and execution within this key customer portfolio.

Compensation Package : $97,500.00 - $130,000.00 CAD annually + bonus eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
