We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Technical Writer to develop and maintain clear, accurate, and accessible cybersecurity and information technology documentation. This role will focus on creating policies, standards, procedures, user guides, training materials, and governance, risk, and compliance content.

The ideal consultant combines strong technical writing skills with knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, regulations, and secure technology practices, and can translate complex requirements into practical guidance for technical teams, customers, and regulators.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews and research to gather information on specific information technology and cybersecurity topics
  • Analyze source material, such as specifications, notes, and drawings
  • Analyze government regulations and industry standards
  • Write, review, edit, and update cybersecurity and information technology policies and standards, and design and manage their workflow and approval

  • Write, review, edit, and update procedures, user guides, and other documents to provide instruction and explain clearly and concisely the secure
  • development, configuration, operation, and maintenance of software
  • Develop and maintain online help documentation
  • Respond to cybersecurity questions from customers, prospective customers, and regulators
  • Design and develop training material, and conduct training regarding security governance and documentation processes
  • Help create content for governance, risk, and compliance software, such as on-screen instructions, error messages, and notification emails

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, IT, technical communication, or a related field—or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in cybersecurity technical writing, GRC, or IT documentation
  • Experience creating policies, standards, procedures, user guides, training materials, and online help content
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, SOC 2, and PCI DSS
  • Ability to interpret regulations and translate complex technical information into clear, concise content
  • Experience managing document review, approval, version control, and publishing workflows
  • Strong research, interviewing, editing, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Familiarity with GRC and documentation platforms, such as ServiceNow, LogicGate, SharePoint, or Confluence
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as Security+, CISA, CISM, or CISSP are an asset
