About the role


With tens of millions of visitors every week, we strive to be the best in the industry for our users. You’ll be responsible for taking ownership of our existing and new database infrastructure for multiple platforms and facilitating releases into new regions. We wrote our systems from scratch about 4 years ago, so you’ll be working with the latest technology and won’t have to worry about decades old technologies. There’s also freedom to research and implement new technologies into our stack as you and the team see fit.


Your Day-to-day


- Take ownership and responsibility for our existing and new database infrastructure

- Slow query monitoring and database system capacity proactive adjustment

- Automating deployments, config management, and building infrastructure with Terraform

- Enhance our existing dashboards as well as develop new dashboards and alert mechanisms

- As we deploy into new regions you’ll be facilitating the database side

- On call responsibilities on a rotating pattern


Our stack: MySQL, MongoDB, AWS EC2, Cloudwatch, RDS, Redshift, Grafana, Prometheus, Terraform, Python, Shell etc


You should apply if you have


- 4+ years experience tackling and managing advanced MySQL and MongoDB problems

- Hands on experience with AWS RDS, Redshift

- Delivering quality documentation and operational runbooks

- Open mind and willing to take on new challenges in a rapidly growing organization

- Sporty is an English speaking working environment, so we are looking for English speakers


Our Interview Process


Our interview process involves 3 main stages:


- Hackerrank test (Maximum of 90 minutes)

- A call with a member of our Talent team

- Final interview with our Database Engineering team (You’ll meet with 3 engineers on separate occasions for 45 minutes each)


We can confidently say that we have a feedback loop of 24-48 hours on all stages, so you’ll never be left in the dark when you’re in process with us.
