We are looking for a Design Engineering Manager to lead part of our growing New Product Development (NPD) team, helping build a new generation of innovative products under the Ninja brand. Based at our Needham, MA headquarters, you will bring technical substance and creative inspiration to our product creation process - driving technology and feasibility decisions from the front end of the roadmap all the way through to credible, market-ready solutions.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead front-end product and engineering development, applying ideation and innovation techniques to shape and drive the Haircare product roadmap in collaboration with cross-functional PD, ID, Brand, and Test Kitchen teams across the US, UK, and China.
- Own the front-end technology and feasibility phase of the Motorized roadmap, championing complete system innovations that bridge physical (mechanical) and digital (sensors, software, batteries, connectivity) disciplines.
- Drive ideas to conclusion early through functional proof-of-concept (POC) rigs - embracing a "fail fast" methodology to surface issues before they reach the back-end NPD implementation team.
- Build and test prototypes hands-on, taking a pragmatic approach to both short- and long-term project exploration.
- Communicate design concepts quickly and persuasively through sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes.
- Conduct design and engineering studies - independently and within teams - to resolve technical and consumer-experience challenges at every stage of development.
- Partner with our global Advanced Design (AD) and Consumer Insights (CI) teams to ensure consumer-focused sensibilities drive direction and are preserved throughout development, delivering 5-star products.
- Coach and actively support team members at all levels, with particular investment in the growth of junior colleagues.
- Balance and prioritize multiple concurrent project workflows while meeting fast-paced schedules and deadlines.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design with a focus on engineering principles.
- 5-10 years of proven experience in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Product Design environments.
- Hands-on experience with injection-molded plastic and sheet metal manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or Creo CAD software.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions - both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a lab setting: building prototypes, conducting product testing, and documenting findings and next steps.
- Broad appreciation for the interplay between mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles.
- Ability to motivate a team to autonomously identify and deliver technical solutions.
- Growth mindset: proactively seeks coaching, invests in continuous learning, and exercises sound judgment in prioritizing problems.
- Entrepreneurial spirit: not afraid to fail fast, learn quickly, and pivot with a positive attitude.
- Flexible and collaborative, with a genuine drive to improve processes and working culture through participation in cross-functional initiatives.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design.
- Prior experience in the consumer goods or household appliance industry.
