Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omni-channel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
Square is seeking an experienced Product Design Manager to lead our design efforts and strategy aimed at driving growth. Our newly formed Growth org includes teams focused on onboarding, setup, hardware, and shop. We develop features, foundational experiences, and capabilities that enable sellers of any size to get started with Square quickly and easily.
The Role
We believe that growth is fueled by a combination of creativity, data-driven insights, and strategic vision. This is where you come in. As the Product Design Manager, you'll motivate and lead a team of 5+ product designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture that ships high-quality designs with significant impact. Your responsibilities include developing a product design strategy that aligns with Square's business goals, with a focus on acquisition, activation, and retention. You'll build strong partnerships to identify and collaborate on solutions that support key business metrics and address sellers' challenges.

  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional leaders and strategic partners across Square.
  • Foster a design culture that values quick testing, data analysis, and research to guide decision-making.
  • Get hands-on with the work when necessary to help remove obstacles and encourage others to think creatively and differently.
  • Always think about how your work fits into the full Square ecosystem.
  • Continuously improve your team and design processes to make things better.

You Have

  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of 2 years in people management.
  • Experience managing a team of 4+ direct reports.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your hands-on leadership, highlighting your ability to think big and be visionary, while also breaking down ideas into achievable steps and iterating as needed.
