Audit the existing app to extract reusable patterns, build a componentised Figma system (tokens, variants, states), document usage and accessibility, deliver a published library, handover guide and team walkthrough, and align system with developers for maintainable adoption.

Healf is Europe's fastest-growing company.

Number one on the FT1000, number one on the Sifted 100. From £1m to over £100m in under three years, with a small, talent-dense team and an electric culture with day one founder intensity. Now we're aiming for £1bn in the next three.

We curate the world's best wellbeing brands across The Four Pillars™: EAT, MOVE, MIND, SLEEP. That's the first chapter.

The next chapter is harder and more interesting.

We are moving from one market to many, from e-commerce to a technology platform, and from curating wellbeing to defining it. We are a health company, so we think we should act like one.

At its fullest expression, Healf redefines what wellbeing means for tens of millions of people.

Why this role is Healf

We're in the middle of building Wellbeing Intelligence, our native app, and the design team has started componentising as they go. That's the right instinct, but it's happening alongside shipping — which means the system is growing unevenly, and nobody owns it end to end.

That's this role. Come in, take the patterns that already exist across the app, and build them into a system that's rigorous enough for engineers to build on and flexible enough for designers to move fast with. You'll work alongside a colleague in Applied AI who'll automate the parts of the process that don't need a human, so your time goes into the judgement calls: what's a real pattern versus a one-off, what the system should enforce versus leave open, and what "on-brand for a premium health product" actually looks like at the component level.

It's a short, high-leverage engagement. You're not here to babysit the system — you're here to build it properly once, document it so it survives contact with a growing team, and hand it over clean.

The engagement
  • Short-term contract, 1-3 months. Starts at 1 month, with an option to extend if there's more work to do.

  • Hours: full-time

  • Remote, flexible

  • Start: ASAP

What you'll do
  • Go through the existing app screens and pull out the patterns worth keeping.

  • Build the system in Figma from scratch: tokens, components, patterns.

  • Cover the full set of states — default, hover, focus, active, disabled, error, empty, loading.

  • Work with our designers and developers to align the system with what's already in production: naming conventions, structure, tokens.

  • Write the documentation: when to use each component and when not to, do's and don'ts, specs, and accessibility notes — contrast, focus, scaling — documented per component.

  • Leave behind a maintenance and contribution guide so the system keeps working after you're gone, and onboard the current design team to it.

What you'll deliver
  • A published, componentised Figma library with a documented set of tokens.

  • Component documentation that designers and the app developer can actually work from.

  • A short handover guide, plus a walkthrough for the team.

Must-haves
  • Real design-systems experience — a shipped system, built within a working team, in your portfolio. Not just screens.

  • Strong Figma craft: variables and tokens, components with variants and properties, auto-layout, published libraries, Dev Mode.

  • A good visual eye. We need systems thinking and taste — one without the other won't cut it, and the bar is a premium consumer health product, not an internal tool.

  • Solid documentation habits.

  • Comfortable working AI-assisted.

Nice to have
  • Experience building a design system for a mobile app specifically.

  • Exporting tokens to code (Style Dictionary, Tailwind, Token Studio), and some awareness of Code Connect.

  • Storybook familiarity — a bonus, since the app developer owns the code side.

The Deal

We ask a great deal of the people who work here. We expect full ownership and a genuine commitment to give this chapter everything you have.

In return, we will give you the same: everything we have, invested in your growth, your wellbeing, and the defining skills of the next decade.

We have built the fastest-growing company in Europe with a team small enough that every person in it shapes the outcome. That is still true today. The next person we hire will change the trajectory of the company.

If the most important work of your career is ahead of you, this is the place to do it.

What you need to know about the Ottawa Tech Scene

The capital city of Canada and the nation's fourth-largest urban area, Ottawa has proven a rapidly growing global tech hub. With over 1,800 tech companies, many of which are leaders in their sectors, the city's tech talent now makes up more than 13 percent of its total workforce. This growth is driven not only by the big players like UL Solutions and Dropbox, but also by a thriving startup ecosystem, as new businesses emerge to follow in the footsteps of those that came before them.
