About the Opportunity:

Tucows Wholesale Domains is looking for a self-motivated and highly skilled AWS DevOps Engineer to join our team.

In this role, you will implement, automate, and optimize cloud-native infrastructure and deployment pipelines for our teams. You will work in an agile, collaborative environment, helping teams leverage AWS to achieve operational excellence, security, reliability, and continuous delivery of applications.

You serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the cloud-native infrastructure design. You mentor other engineers during the duration of the projects you work on. You interface with other engineering teams in the organization to come up with the best solutions based on their requirements and you actively seek the best ways to architect the platforms.

The incumbent will be part of a talented, growing team and work in a dynamic environment with multiple teams where you challenge and propose creative and effective solutions to maintain and improve reliability while helping to ensure the operational excellence of our platforms is maintained.

This is a remote position for applicants in Canada. 

What you will be doing

The position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Build, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient AWS infrastructure using EKS, RDS, EC2 and more.
  • Execute migration and modernization initiatives, implementing tooling and processes to transform legacy workloads to cloud-native operations.
  • Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines, implement automation scripts, and evangelize DevOps best practices across teams.
  • Implement containerized application environments and manage orchestration using EKS and ECS.
  • Apply and automate cloud security best practices across infrastructure implementations, including IAM, VPCs, security groups, and compliance standards.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation.
  • Act as a technical expert to team members, providing hands-on implementation guidance and troubleshooting throughout project lifecycles.
  • Work within agile teams to deliver infrastructure and automation outcomes iteratively and incrementally.
  • Collaborate and share knowledge in a remote-first environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years of experience in public cloud environments (AWS preferred).
  • Strong expertise in AWS services and infrastructure implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with migrations and application deployment automation.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Bash), and infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with GitOps workflows and practices.
  • Practical knowledge of containers and orchestration technologies (EKS, ECS).
  • Solid understanding of AWS security, networking implementation, and cloud governance.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation Excellent communication and collaboration skills in technical implementation settings.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving, and the ability to debug complex-cross systems problems, and document root causes including remediation and detection
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach to work, enjoy being part of a team and have excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, OpenStack) is preferred 
  • Familiarity with observability tools, monitoring systems, and automated alerting
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Have a proven track record as an intermediate or senior systems engineer with 5+ years of experience in this field.
  • Background in system administration or platform engineering
  • Strong Linux and Unix fundamentals, server automation, scripting, networking and security experience.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., SaltStack, Ansible or similar).
Nice to have:
  • Experience with Continuous Integration concepts and tools.
  • AWS Certifications (particularly AWS DevOps Engineer Professional).
  • Experience mentoring others.

The base salary range for this position is $94,365 to $104,850 CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
