POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Director, Business Development, BDC Advisory Services will be to ensure that BDC Advisory Services continues to play a critical role in creating value for our clients and for the Canadian economy. He or she will need to provide leadership to the Advisory Services sales organization for assigned cluster(s) within a region, in collaboration with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents, Financing and Consulting, the business centre managers, as well as other groups within BDC.

The Director, Business Development, BDC Advisory Services is also responsible for managing a given team of Managers, Business Development, Advisory Services to develop resources to their full potential and assess their performance. Furthermore, the incumbent will be required to work in an active, collaborative manner to support the consulting-related business development activities of the account managers in his or her market. The Director, Business Development, BDC Advisory Services has the primary responsibility of running the go-to market strategy in alignment with the corporate vision, driving the required regional volume in terms of consulting revenue while working in collaboration with the respective lead pillars to ensure a positive impact on our clients.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Participate in the development and lead the implementation of the business development plan to ensure the successful delivery of consulting services and the achievement of shared objectives within a market.

  • Manage the sales force, ensure sales efficiency and productivity. Foster referral initiatives from Financing to Consulting and vice versa, and ensure proper opportunity management.

  • Support Managers, Business Development, Advisory Services to independently sell standard mandates provided by the pillars: Provide coaching and identify development activities to them in the diagnostic process. Identify opportunities and capture needs related to customized mandates in collaboration with pillars.

  • Liaise on a regular basis with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents, Financing and Consulting and business centre managers to make sure the proper market facing (sales) resources are allocated and well localized.

  • Work in close partnership with the Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents, Financing and Consulting, and foster the relationship with internal stakeholders to maintain effective communication channels and ensure the timely dissemination of information, implementation of initiatives and achievement of objectives.

  • Put in place and monitor the proper management framework (practices, meetings and reporting) to maintain the alignment and performance of the Sales team and business development strategies in the market.

  • Share best practices with colleagues.

  • Ensure efficiency and economies of scale by using BDC Advisory Services’ Shared Services and by complying with standardized methodologies.

  • Develop partnerships (public and private) to accelerate the acceptance of consulting services among Canadian SMEs and to keep abreast of emerging trends and their relevance to BDC.

  • Share responsibility and accountability for revenues from the BDC Advisory Services portfolio for their respective geographic markets, including customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

  • Help create and support an environment of continuous improvement and change.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s in commerce, finance or business administration

  • 10+ years’ experience managing a business development team, ideally within a management consulting organization

  • Experience in banking or financial services is desired

  • Client management, project management

  • Experience leading a professional business development team

  • Ability to diagnose business needs and provide sustainable long-term solutions

  • Teamwork and collaboration oriented, promoting open dialogue and communication

  • Relationship building, stakeholder management

  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Corporate mindset with a keen business acumen

  • Entrepreneurial spirit, agility and flexibility

  • People management skills

  • Ability to plan, manage and participate in outreach, promotion and business development activities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Bilingualism (French and English) may be required depending on the location
