Who We Are

North Vector Dynamics is a Canadian-owned and controlled defence technology company specializing in precision interception, autonomy, and advanced propulsion. NVD is building a full-spectrum missile capability, from counter-UAS solutions to hypersonics, designed to serve and defend NATO member states and their allies and partners.

The Role

The Director of Communications and Marketing will lead the company's corporate communications, marketing and brand function and shape how NVD is understood across domestic and international markets.

The Director will be responsible for NVD's corporate brand, external communications, product and market positioning, media presence, digital channels and broader communications strategy. The role will ensure that NVD presents a clear, credible and consistent identity to customers, partners, industry, media, prospective employees, and other external audiences.

This is a senior, hands-on role in a growing company. The Director will set the direction for the function, advise the executive team, and build the standards, internal team, and external agency/vendor network required as the function scales.

What You'll Do
Corporate Communications and Executive Positioning
  • Develop and lead NVD's communications strategy, translating corporate priorities into communications plans and priorities.

  • Own NVD's corporate narrative, messaging and positioning across corporate, product and partnership communications.

  • Advise and support the CEO and senior leadership on announcements, interviews, public engagements and executive communications, including preparation of statements, speaking points and briefing materials.

  • Lead communications planning for significant company milestones, including product launches, demonstrations, partnerships, financing announcements and major customer or government engagements.

  • Build and manage relationships with relevant defence, technology, business and national media, identify proactive opportunities and coordinate responses to inquiries.

  • Lead priority internal communications, including leadership messages, company updates and sequencing of major announcements.

Brand, Marketing and Market Presence
  • Own the development, maintenance and consistent application of NVD's corporate narrative, messaging and positioning.

  • Develop product positioning that differentiates NVD within priority defence markets and supports the Business Development team’s customer and capture objectives.

  • Work with the Business Development and technical teams to translate complex technologies and capabilities into clear customer- and market-facing materials.

  • Lead NVD's digital communications across the corporate website, social media and other relevant platforms, and lead an integrated content program that includes written, visual and video content.

  • Lead NVD's communications and brand presence at priority conferences, trade shows, demonstrations and company-hosted events, including positioning, creative assets, collateral and supporting content.

Issues, Security and Communications Governance
  • Lead the communications response to significant operational, security or reputational issues, including response planning, executive preparation, messaging and media handling.

  • Establish and manage NVD's communications release-review process, coordinating with technical, security, legal and business owners to confirm that information is accurate, supportable and approved for external release.

  • Monitor relevant coverage and emerging issues and advise leadership on communications risks and responses.

What You Bring
Required
  • Substantial progressively senior experience in corporate communications, marketing or an integrated communications function, including direct counsel to senior executives.

  • Exceptional writing, editing and message judgment, with experience developing corporate messaging, advising senior leaders and translating complex technical, commercial and policy subjects for different audiences.

  • Strong understanding of brand management, product positioning and the production of high-quality corporate and market-facing materials.

  • Experience managing external agencies, creative professionals or specialist vendors.

  • Strong judgment, project-management capability and the ability to operate with substantial autonomy in an organization scaling rapidly with limited corporate infrastructure.

Preferred
  • Experience in defence, aerospace, advanced technology, government, national security or another complex and highly regulated sector.

  • Experience working with technical or engineering organizations and communicating sophisticated technologies to non-technical audiences.

  • Media relations experience.

  • Experience developing product marketing or sales-enablement materials for sophisticated institutional or government customers.

  • Experience in a startup or scale-up where communications capabilities had to be built from the ground up.

Why North Vector Dynamics
  • Take meaningful ownership from day one, helping build NVD’s communications, marketing and brand capability and shape the relationships that support growth in Canada and allied markets.

  • Work in a mission-driven organization supporting Canada’s military capability, industrial base and national security.

  • Work closely with NVD’s founders and senior leadership, with direct exposure to the corporate and commercial decisions that shape the company’s growth.

  • Competitive compensation and meaningful upside from joining an early-stage company at the forefront of the defence technology sector.
