TMX Group’s Corporate Communications team is dedicated to positioning the company as a leader in corporate Canada and a client-centric, growth-focused innovator in the global exchange space. We are seeking a Director, Corporate Communications & Public Affairs to bring deep financial industry expertise to our Communications team and the broader Legal & Corporate Affairs department. In this role, you will drive proactive programs supporting external goals, with a specific focus on public affairs, strategic stakeholder advocacy, and high-impact media relations.

This role reports to: Vice President, Corporate Communications & Brand Reputation

Job Location: Hybrid (4 days in office) - based in Toronto, ON

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategic Advocacy: Lead the development and delivery of comprehensive communications plans that support TMX’s purpose-driven advocacy objectives and overarching corporate strategy.

  • Public Affairs Leadership: Partner with Government Relations, Marketing, and Legal teams to drive proactive advocacy strategies, identifying tactics to deepen connections with key external organizations, capital markets influencers and priority stakeholders.

  • Executive Communications: Act as a strategic advisor to the C-suite; creating consistent, high-impact messaging, speeches, and presentations for the CEO and senior management team.

  • Market Positioning: Develop informed communications strategies to position TMX as a thought leader regarding industry trends among target audiences and key stakeholders.

  • Media Relations & Reputation: Proactively seek media coverage for corporate affairs; manage crisis communications and issues management scenarios to protect and enhance brand reputation.

  • Collaboration: A willing and engaged communications professional, with experience working in a team setting, working on shared assignments, toward shared objectives.

  • Operational Excellence: Identify strategic opportunities and speaking engagements to raise profile and achieve strategic corporate and business objectives, while ensuring adherence to the department’s annual budget.

Must Have(s)

  • Experience: 8-10 years of progressive communications experience (PR and Media Relations) specifically within the financial services sector, preferably with a public company.

  • Executive Presence: Proven experience working directly with C-Suite executives in public affairs, media relations, and crisis management.

  • Speech-Writing Expertise: Demonstrated success in senior executive-level speech-writing, capturing specific tone and complex content effectively.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership acumen with a track record of building and managing high-performing teams.

  • Education: A degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • Project Management: Formal experience or certifications in change management or complex project coordination.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Google for Work and PowerPoint; digitally savvy with an interest in evolving communication technologies, including AI.

Nice to Have(s)

  • Bilingualism: Proficiency in both English and French is considered a strong asset.

Salary Range: 160K/year - 180K/year CAD. Please note that the salary range included is a guideline only. The salary offered may vary based on factors, including, but not limited to, the successful candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
