Title and Summary
Director, Software Engineering
Job Overview
Mastercard's Next Generation File Transfer (NGFT) platform is a critical modernization initiative designed to replace and coexist with legacy Global File Transfer (GFT) capabilities while enabling secure, scalable, and resilient data exchange at global scale. The platform supports hundreds of products, including clearing and settlement flows, and operates in highly regulated, on-soil environments across multiple regions. You will be responsible for shaping the technical vision, driving engineering excellence, and ensuring operational resilience across modern and legacy file transfer capabilities. This role blends deep engineering leadership with strong cross-functional collaboration to deliver secure, high-performance platforms that support Mastercard's core products and services.
Role
Define and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap for File Transfer platforms, aligned with Mastercard's technology and business objectives.
Lead multiple engineering teams across geographies, fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Own the architecture and evolution of secure, scalable, and resilient file transfer solutions, including cloud-native and hybrid environments.
Partner closely with Product, Program Management, Security, Risk, and Operations to deliver end-to-end outcomes, from design through production operations.
Ensure platforms meet stringent requirements for security, compliance, availability, and performance in regulated environments.
Champion modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automation, observability, and reliability engineering.
Drive operational readiness, incident management excellence, and post-incident learning to continuously reduce risk and improve resilience.
Influence enterprise-wide architectural decisions and represent File Transfer engineering in senior leadership forums.
All About You
You are a seasoned engineering leader with a strong track record of delivering large-scale, distributed platforms that are secure, reliable, and operationally robust.
You bring deep understanding of building and operating high-throughput, data-intensive systems, ideally within financial services or other regulated industries.
You balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical credibility, enabling you to guide architecture decisions and challenge designs constructively.
You value team success over individual success and actively coach, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and senior engineers.
You are comfortable navigating complex stakeholder environments and can clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
You have a strong operational mindset and treat reliability, observability, and risk reduction as first-class engineering concerns.
Corporate Security Responsibility
All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must:
  • Abide by Mastercard's security policies and practices;
  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed;
  • Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and
  • Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard's guidelines.
