Job Description:

Director, Tax Counsel

The Role

The FMR LLC Corporate Tax Department is seeking a Director, Tax Counsel to become a member of the Tax Planning team, providing support on a wide variety of tax matters for Fidelity investment teams.  This position will be responsible for working with our partners to advise on structuring, acquisitions, and general tax compliance for a wide range of investment funds and products. The ideal candidate will have a background in partnership tax and transactions and will be comfortable communicating tax-related concepts to audiences with varying degree of tax expertise.   

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • J.D. with 3+ years of relevant law firm, Big 4 or industry experience as a practicing attorney
  • General comfort with tax laws, regulations and practices, particularly those related to Subchapter K
  • Familiarity with private equity, private credit, fund of funds, real estate, derivates, information reporting, and regulated investment companies a plus
  • Ability to translate rules and work with non-tax colleagues to develop solutions and manage transactions
  • Ability to work independently under pressure in a dynamic environment that will require you to manage multiple, competing tasks simultaneously
  • Collaboration skills and the ability to work as a member in a team context; ability to build relationships with a range of partners across the company
  • Excellent advocacy and project management skills
  • Willingness to learn new areas and manage matters to completion
  • Exceptional judgment to analyze complex legal and business issues in a variety of substantive areas and escalate those that need additional attention
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and self-directed, but comfortable with reporting lines that require acquiring approvals and buy-ins from numerous constituents
  • Strong communications and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate sophisticated legal concepts clearly and efficiently
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills

The Team

The FMR LLC Corporate Tax Department team is composed of more than 50 lawyers and CPAs who advise and support on tax matters across the Fidelity organization, including the firm’s asset management business.
