PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $194,400.00-$237,800.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $151,400.00 - $280,900.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

Employees and their eligible family members have access to a wide array of employee benefits, such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage.  Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance.  We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees.  Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan.  Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE: 

As a Director of Technology – DevOps, you will be at the forefront of driving BECU’s digital transformation, leading high-performing DevOps teams to build scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions. Your leadership will shape the future of our cloud, automation, and CI/CD strategies, ensuring seamless software delivery and system reliability. 

You will provide hands-on leadership to multiple development teams, building a world-class team of DevOps engineers that powers Acceptance Solutions Product Development. Your focus will be on defining, executing, and delivering DevOps tooling and processes at scale, accelerating innovation while ensuring operational excellence. 

As a thought and execution leader, you will foster a diverse culture of cross-functional collaboration, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement. By bringing industry best practices in DevOps, you will drive transformational change across the organization. Balancing business agility with regulatory, security, and privacy requirements will be key to your success.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Lead Strategy: Define and drive a DevOps vision and roadmap that aligns with enterprise goals and enables agility, resilience, and scale. 

  • Drive Digital Transformation Spearhead the modernization of platforms, embracing Cloud, API, and DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and release management, ensuring systems are robust, secure, and future-ready. 

  • Drive Cloud & Automation Excellence: Spearhead the adoption of cloud-native solutions and infrastructure as code (IaC), while expanding automation across the software delivery lifecycle. 

  • Build and Lead High-Performing Teams: Mentor, coach, and manage engineering and delivery teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence.  

  • Implement Agile Best Practices: Promote DevOps principles that amplify agile methodologies, breaking down silos and encouraging iterative development and fast feedback loops. 

  • Enhance System Performance: Create a culture grounded in security, scalability, and high performance—embedding best practices in testing, code quality, and incident management. 

  • Ensure System Reliability & Resilience: Implement SRE-inspired practices to drive uptime, performance, and proactive incident response across mission-critical platforms. 

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with business leaders to align technology investments with operational goals and member needs. 

  • Optimize Financial and Resource Planning: Oversee technology budgets and resource allocation to drive cost-effective solutions. 

  • Foster Innovation: Identify and implement emerging technologies to enhance BECU’s competitive edge. 

  • Governance & Planning: Provide leadership in governance meetings, strategic planning, and technology initiative reviews. 

  • Own Governance & Risk Alignment: Ensure DevOps practices meet evolving regulatory, compliance, and security standards—without slowing innovation 

  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Measure and improve key DevOps metrics—such as deployment frequency, lead time, and mean time to recovery—fostering a cycle of constant learning and iteration. 

  • Support Strategic Initiatives: Lead and oversee the execution of key initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, timelines, and outcomes 

  • Optimize Vendor Partnerships: Evaluate, implement, and optimize tools, platforms, and external partnerships to scale DevOps capabilities effectively and cost-efficiently 

  • Champion Outcome-Driven Metrics: Develop and track OKRs and KPIs to measure impact, maintain focus, and drive accountability across teams.  

  • Lead with Purpose: Create a high-performance, inclusive culture grounded in trust, growth, and shared success.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.  

  • 7 years of experience people leader experience with a focus on DevOps, site reliability engineering (SRE) and cloud operations.  

  • Experience leading technology teams  

  • 8 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and automation with hands-on expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC) and configuration management 

  • Domain experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or Infrastructure/Operations and/or financial products experience (i.e. Credit Card, Mortgage, Auto Loan, Deposits, etc.)  

  • Experience building technology platforms and teams  

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), scripting languages (Python, Bash), and CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Spinnaker).  

  • Experience in test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Appium) and performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner). Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the infrastructure and applications. 

  • Advanced knowledge of Technology fundamentals, design, problem solving, and complexity analysis 

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs  

  • Delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology 

  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, change management, managing incidents, CI/CD, build processes, testing, and operations
