The opportunity
At Ciena, we power the world’s most advanced networks. As part of our Routing & Switching team, you’ll help shape the future of connectivity—designing smarter, faster, and more resilient networks for global service providers.
You’ll begin by being part of software base platform team for Routing and Switching product family, building expertise on SAOS 10x (our custom Linux-based OS), our next-gen platform engineered for scalability, performance, and the future of routing and switching.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develop embedded software SAOS 10X products. You will regularly engage with Product Owners and other System Architects to evolve and invigorate the platform, to ensure that it can continue to adopt and support new features and technologies.
You will play a key role in troubleshooting software and performance issues, and work with Architects, Software and Hardware Engineers to undertake root cause analysis.
You will work with firmware and low-level software such as Drivers on Linux platforms.
You will identify software performance improvements, including but not limited to CPU usage and memory management
You will actively influence the software architecture, to improve resiliency, debuggability and maintainability.
Troubleshoot, debug, and support large-scale network deployments in real-world environments.
Influence software architecture to improve resiliency, scalability, and maintainability.
Role Requirements
12+ years of experience in software development for networking products.
Strong programming skills in Scripting(like bash, Python), C/C++, and deep knowledge of Linux OS.
Enhancements of existing software, development of new drivers, and support of new hardware based on with Intel x86-64 & 64-bit ARM (aarch64), AMD processors.
Familiarity with YANG/XML, Git, Jira, and CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
Proven problem-solving ability and a mindset for building scalable, production-ready software.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across global teams.
Experience in Build systems (such as Make, Cmake, Meson/Ninja).
Familiarity with the Yocto project and its fundamentals
Experience with Container design, specifically Docker, Docker-compose and their related ecosystem.

The salary range for this position is:
Cdn: $118k - $188,400.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
