About the client

Our client is a leading European online car marketplace, connecting car buyers and sellers across the continent. The platform serves over 30 million monthly users and operates across 18 countries, making it one of the largest and most trusted digital marketplaces for vehicles in Europe.

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the CRM team for a short-term, 3-month engagement, providing coverage while the current manager is on leave. This is a facilitation-focused leadership role: rather than driving long-term strategy, you will keep the team running smoothly day to day, acting much like a Scrum Master with a solid technical foundation.

The ideal candidate combines a hands-on software development background with strong Scrum and team facilitation skills, and can step into an established team, build trust quickly, and maintain delivery momentum from day one.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the CRM team's day-to-day work and all Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain team delivery momentum and continuity during the current manager's leave, ensuring commitments and priorities stay on track.
  • Remove blockers and impediments, escalating risks and dependencies to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Partner with product owners and stakeholders to keep the backlog refined, prioritized, and aligned with business goals.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers, leveraging your development background in discussions, reviews, and decision-making.
  • Track and communicate team progress, health, and delivery metrics to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support team members individually, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a positive working environment.
  • Ensure a smooth handover of team context and ongoing initiatives back to the returning manager at the end of the engagement.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including 2+ years in an engineering management, team lead, or Scrum Master role.
  • Strong hands-on software development background with the ability to engage credibly in technical discussions with engineers.
  • Proven experience running Scrum: facilitating ceremonies, managing backlogs, and coaching teams on agile practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to join an existing team quickly, build trust, and maintain delivery without disruption.
  • Experience collaborating with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams in a distributed environment.
  • Strong servant-leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work full-time within Canada time zones.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
Nice to have
  • Experience with CRM systems or customer-facing platform domains.
  • Scrum Master or agile certification (e.g., CSM, PSM).
  • Prior experience in short-term interim or coverage leadership engagements.
  • Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or other high-traffic consumer platforms.

We offer*:

  • Flexible working format - remote, office-based or flexible
  • A competitive salary and good compensation package
  • Personalized career growth
  • Professional development tools (mentorship program, tech talks and trainings, centers of excellence, and more)
  • Active tech communities with regular knowledge sharing
  • Education reimbursement
  • Memorable anniversary presents
  • Corporate events and team buildings
  • Other location-specific benefits

*not applicable for freelancers
