Financial Analyst, US Statutory Financial Reporting and Accounting
US Statutory Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Provide support for the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements including the Risk Based Capital (RBC) return for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
- Assist with the timely quarterly reporting cycle on a US Statutory accounting basis by processing journal entries within the Corporate General Ledger
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly account reconciliations
- Support the preparation of the working papers for the annual external review of the reconciliation of The US Branch net income between IFRS and NAIC
- Assist with the internal coordination with the Corporate Actuarial and Investment Accounting team to ensure sufficient and complete information is obtained for US Statutory reporting
US Regulatory Filings
- Assist with the preparation and submission of the quarterly and annual regulatory returns to the NAIC including state fillings
- Maintain the regulatory filings tracking sheet to ensure that filings are tracked and submitted in a timely manner
- Assist in coordinating internally with signatories and notaries as required for the approval of returns prior to submission
- Support with payment fulfilment to US State Regulators in a timely manner
Segregated Fund Reporting
- Assist with the timely preparation of the annual audited IFRS financial statements
- Preparation of the quarterly segregated fund account reconciliations
- Compilation and provision of external audit support as part of the annual audit
- Preparation of the segregated fund annual fund facts document for publication
Other
- Coordinate with Insurance Operations on the annual reporting and payments for unclaimed property
- Assist with the compilation of Board and Audit committee materials as required
- Other duties as assigned
- University degree with a major in Accounting/Finance or equivalent
- Professional Accounting designation or enrolled in advanced stages of professional designation program
- 1-2 years of related industry experience, experience in life insurance/financial institution corporate reporting environment
- Knowledge of insurance accounting policies and procedures would be an asset
- Strong analytical, financial, and accounting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Enthusiastic individual who possesses flexibility and team commitment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish priorities to meet tight deadlines
- Decisive with sound judgment to act effectively to anticipate problems and be proactive in finding solutions
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy
- High degree of accountability, ownership and initiative
- Excellent computer skills in an MS Office environment
- Proactive and highly motivated individual who will take the initiative to get things done
