Frontend Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a Frontend Engineer to join an international team of developers on the SUSE Multi-Linux Manager product team.
SUSE Multi-Linux Manager is an open-source solution for managing multiple Linux distributions, anywhere and at any scale, used by hundreds of organizations and users around the world.
Focus AreasIn this role, you will create and ship code for SUSE Multi-Linux Manager and Uyuni (its upstream project).
We expect you to:
- Be a great person to work with: promote teamwork and value mentoring (giving and receiving).
- Drive the future of our code base, working with upstream project communities and influencing design and implementation decisions.
- Work with users to identify problems, turn them into good bug reports, track progress and provide actual solutions and feedback back to users.
- Be productive while at the same time keeping a focus on maintaining high quality standards.
We look for passionate engineers who are motivated to make an impact for their team and for our customers.
The ideal candidate will have past experience working as a Frontend or UX Engineer:
- Substantial previous experience working with front-end technologies and frameworks, ideally React and TypeScript.
- Solid software engineering skills regarding algorithms, programming paradigms and distributed systems.
- Background and previous work experience in the field of usability engineering and UX design.
- Familiarity with JavaScript build tooling such as npm and webpack
- Familiarity with the GNU/Linux operating system
- Giving and receiving code reviews with an ability to knowledgeably discuss technical alternatives in complex systems.
- Verbal and written proficiency in English language.
The following topics are not mandatory, but would be an advantage:
- Good understanding of the Linux operating system, including differences between distributions and proficiency in their management.
- Knowledge of backend technologies (like Java, Golang or SQL databases) or experience with API development (for example using openAPI)
- Previous participation in open-source communities, please show us your past contributions.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and gain hands-on experience in the open-source world.
- Participation in regular Hackweeks and workshops at the company, department, and team levels, fostering continuous learning and innovation.
- Paid vacation along with a comprehensive range of country-specific employee benefits.
We might be conducting a coding exercise with you during an interview in order to verify technical skills. This may not be necessary if there is sufficient publicly available evidence of your technical skills in the form of open source contributions.
Please feel encouraged to start contributing to our repositories, in particular Uyuni (our Java script part of the UI is at the web directory) You can check the list of suitable good first issues available in the Uyuni project, for your inspiration. Your contributions would then be discussed as part of the interview process.
