About the role .
We are looking for an Intern to join our in-house legal team supporting our business in North America for a 12-week period starting in May 2025. This position will be based out of our global headquarters in Toronto, Ontario.
In this role, you will assist with various legal tasks and projects, providing support to McCain's in-house lawyers and working with business teams and stakeholders across Canada and the US. This position will provide support in areas such as reviewing and drafting contracts for a number of business units (e.g., procurement, agriculture, sales, marketing, operations, etc.), researching and analyzing changes in laws and regulations, preparing templates and legal reference materials, and development and coordination of internal training programs and support for corporate management of our global structure. You will learn about the legal queries and challenges associated with an expansive international food production business, including employment and labor considerations, regulatory requirements, commercial management, supply chain logistics, litigation/dispute resolution, corporate governance, and sustainability initiatives.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of practice areas across a dynamic in-house corporate setting.
This position will work a hybrid schedule, with three days a week in the Toronto, Ontario office.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a JD program at an accredited law school, preferably in the first or second year
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess a professional, detail-oriented, and honest work ethic, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Display a strong academic record

About the team .
McCain's growing North American legal team currently consists of two senior counsel team members in Oakbrook, IL, and two senior counsel team members in Toronto, Ontario, all reporting to the general counsel for North and South America, who herself reports to the Chief Legal Officer for McCain's global operations. The team collaborates with other global attorneys focused on specialized areas like sustainability, intellectual property, and privacy compliance while periodically working with counsel across other global regions.

Compensation Package : $23.00 - $26.00 CAD hourly
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
