Risk Management is an independent function within CommBank which is accountable for providing approval and acceptance of decisions to ensure the Group remains within its risk appetite.

The Technology and Operations Risk team (Tech & Ops Team) is responsible for providing specialist Line 2 Operational Risk and Compliance (OR&C) advice, assurance and acceptance/approval of decisions made across the Technology, COO and Supplier Support Units.

The Line 2 COO Operational Risk & Compliance (OR&C) Team (COO Line 2), which forms part of Technology and Operations Risk team, is accountable for executing Line 2’s mandate over the Chief Operations Office (COO) to ensure the COO operates within risk appetite.  This includes providing specialist OR&C advice, undertaking assurance, approving / accepting residual risk ratings, and approving / accepting relevant decisions made by the COO.

In this role, you will lead the team, within COO Line 2, that supports Business, International and Market Operations (BIMO), and Payment Operations team within Business Banking Technology.  Additionally, you will lead the work across the COO Line 2 team, working closely with the COO Line 2 LT, to understand front-to-back processes with the intent on ensuring non-financial risk is identified and managed.

Support CBA’s journey to NPS +30 and delivering better customer outcomes through leading risk management – specifically effective, practical insights, ORMF and CMF support, efficient governance and timely, fact-based reporting, and enabling the effective operation of the COO Risk & Compliance team to drive great business, risk and customer outcomes.

Key responsibilities for this role includes:

  • Lead a team of Operational Risk and Compliance professionals to drive the commercial and effective use of risk management and compliance frameworks within BIMO

  • Provide commercial, pragmatic, and insightful risk and compliance advice to BIMO to enable BIMO to achieve their strategic and customer objectives within risk appetite

  • Form an independent view over whether BIMO appropriately manages is risks and compliance exposures

  • Conduct relevant work to understand front to back processes across the COO enabling the COO Line 2 team to form a COO-wide independent view of the COO’s risk and compliance exposures

  • Execute accountabilities under the operational risk and compliance frameworks, including providing risk and compliance advice, and reporting insights to various governance forums

  • Build effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including Business, Risk, Compliance, and Group Risk functions

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Strong leadership and management skills with proven capability to grow and lead a team to deliver effective commercial outcomes

  • Experience in partnering, building, and maintaining productive and trusted relationships with cross-functional stakeholders at all levels of the organsation

  • Experience operating at an executive manager level within the operational risk and compliance domains

  • Deep understanding of investment banking, markets and business banking products and processes

  • Proven assurance and or process re-engineering skills

  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence a broad range of stakeholders to achieve impactful risk management outcomes

  • Track record of taking ownership and being strategically proactive whilst being able to be responsive and manage effectively across a wide range of topics and initiatives
