HRFS Analyst | Virtual - Canada
The HRFS Analyst provides payroll accounting, funding, and financial analysis support to Strada clients across Canada and the United States. Based in Canada, this position supports Canadian clients with both Canadian and U.S. payroll populations and is responsible for ensuring accurate payroll accounting, reconciliations, funding, and financial reporting across both countries. The role works closely with clients, payroll processing teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve financial and operational issues, support audits, and maintain appropriate financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform payroll-to-General Ledger (GL) reconciliations for both Canadian and U.S. payroll populations, including payroll activity, GL postings, balance sheet accounts, and interface error reports.
- Prepare bank and funding reconciliations by comparing payroll, banking, and third-party payment data and taking appropriate action to clear reconciling items.
- Analyze payroll variances, accounting discrepancies, and compliance issues; perform root cause analysis and recommend appropriate resolutions.
- Prepare or support journal vouchers, reclassifications, and other accounting adjustments and understand their impact on the General Ledger.
- Analyze financial, operational, and compliance risks associated with escalated issues and provide recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Provide functional support for payroll accounting and funding issues, including researching system defects, documenting issues and evidence, and coordinating resolution with appropriate internal teams.
- Support implementations, go-lives, year-end activities, and the accurate and timely delivery of payroll accounting and GL files and documents.
- Respond to client, vendor, and internal inquiries related to payroll accounting, funding, treasury, and financial processes across Canadian and U.S. operations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely information and helping ensure appropriate controls are established and followed.
- Maintain Defined Work Instructions (DWIs), process documentation, and other procedures and controls to support consistent service delivery.
- Partner with payroll processing teams, Operations, Product, and other internal groups to resolve issues, share lessons learned, and improve service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and enhanced controls and support implementation of approved solutions.
- Participate in team knowledge sharing, training, and coaching related to payroll accounting, funding, and delivery processes.
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive payroll and financial information while building effective relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Professional Experience & Skills
- Accounting experience is required, with hands-on payroll accounting experience supporting both Canadian and U.S. payroll.
- Demonstrated understanding of payroll accounting processes and financial requirements in both Canada and the United States.
- Payroll financial reporting, payroll funding, or payroll reconciliation experience preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience using Workday or a similar payroll, ERP, or accounting system.
- Strong understanding of General Ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and payroll accounting processes.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and related financial systems.
- Ability to analyze financial issues, identify root causes, assess risk, and make sound recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain SLA and client commitments in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while following established processes, procedures, and controls.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a global environment.
