Key Responsibilities
Structural Engineering & Design
- Lead structural engineering and design activities for complex energy and infrastructure projects across various project phases.
- Develop and review structural calculations, analysis, designs, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate existing structures and develop recommendations for modifications, repairs, upgrades, or new construction.
- Apply relevant engineering codes, standards, design criteria, and industry practices to structural solutions.
- Review structural systems for safety, constructability, durability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide technical input into studies, feasibility assessments, conceptual designs, and detailed engineering deliverables.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for structural engineering activities within project teams.
- Establish and maintain technical quality standards for structural deliverables.
- Plan and manage structural engineering tasks, including scope, schedule, resources, and technical deliverables.
- Review and approve engineering work in accordance with applicable company procedures and delegated technical authority.
- Identify technical risks, design constraints, and opportunities for improvement and develop appropriate solutions.
- Support project managers and discipline leads with technical planning, estimating, scheduling, and execution activities.
- Coordinate structural engineering activities with civil, mechanical, electrical, architectural, process, and other project disciplines.
- Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews and resolve technical interfaces and design conflicts.
- Provide structural input to project layouts, equipment arrangements, constructability reviews, and construction planning.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders on structural engineering matters as required.
- Ensure structural engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, technical audits, quality assurance activities, and constructability assessments.
- Promote engineering practices that support health, safety, environmental, and sustainability objectives.
- Identify and communicate potential technical, safety, and project delivery risks.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate structural engineers and designers.
- Review engineering work and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering procedures, standards, tools, and best practices.
- Support knowledge sharing and technical development within the structural engineering discipline.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; a master's degree is an asset.
- 10+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within the energy, infrastructure, industrial, buildings, or related engineering sectors.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional registration is required or strongly preferred, depending on jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated experience leading structural engineering activities on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis, design principles, materials, and applicable engineering codes and standards.
- Experience with steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, and other structural systems relevant to energy and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
- Experience coordinating structural designs with multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Strong technical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, technical deliverables, and project deadlines.
- Proficiency with discipline-specific structural analysis, design, drafting, and engineering software; specific software packages may vary by project and business requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering quality management, safety requirements, and professional responsibilities.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project, client, or construction sites as required.
