Translate, edit, and proofread certified legal content from English into Japanese in XTM; perform terminology research and TM/glossary maintenance; implement SME and LQA feedback; flag legal-risk issues; collaborate in a multi-vendor environment and meet strict SLAs. Support Standard Legal projects as needed.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are seeking an English into Japanese (ja-JP) Certified Legal linguist to replace our outgoing TEP resource on our Localization Program. You will handle end-to-end TEP (translate, edit, proofread) for Certified Legal content in XTM.
MAIN DUTIES
- Translate, edit, and proofread certified legal content from English (en-US) into Japanese (ja-JP), preserving legal meaning, intent, and enforceability.
- Work in XTM (online), following style guides, certified legal requirements, and terminology.
- Perform terminology research; maintain and expand glossaries and TMs to client standards.
- Implement SME and LQA feedback, address quality findings, and drive continuous improvement.
- Flag linguistic or legal-risk issues proactively and propose resolutions.
- Collaborate in a multi-vendor environment and meet strict turnaround SLAs.
- As needed, support Standard Legal projects in addition to Certified Legal.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Native fluency in Japanese (ja-JP) with excellent command of English (spoken and written).
- Proven expertise in Certified Legal translation; strong background in legal domains relevant to a global tech company (e.g., NDAs, MSAs, EULAs, DPAs, compliance, procurement).
- Proficient with XTM Cloud and QA/terminology tools; comfortable with TEP workflows.
- Able to follow detailed instructions, style guides, and legal certification protocols.
- Able to clearly explain translation decisions and rationale.
- Experience delivering both translation and review in a multi-vendor setup.
- Degree in linguistics, translation, or law (or equivalent professional experience).
