What is the opportunity?
As a Data Engineer you will be a part of the Data Analytics team, performing ETL activities, data modeling and building the data infrastructure that powers effective decision-making. You will build a solution to process large datasets and develop data models to facilitate informed decision-making and business process optimization in order to protect the organization from various security threats. You will also own projects to elevate KRI reporting and be the expert on the data sets and data tools that are available.
You will collaborate with other developers and business partners to deliver medium – high complexity initiatives aligned with IT Risk strategic objectives using RBC’s Agile Ways of Working or Iterative Waterfall Frameworks and Business Agility concepts.
What will you do?

Work in partnership with Data Analytics team to build data pipelines to support data models and ensure data quality throughout processing, automation, and modeling

Deep dive into advanced analyses, providing robust models tied to business objectives and outcomes, and being able to derive meaningful conclusions from it

Develop and maintain key risk and performance indicators and dashboards to monitor product performance, identify trends, and generate actionable insights for stakeholders.

Manage multiple complex projects, identifying dependencies and working on parallel tracks independently

Perform ad hoc analysis to quickly solve time sensitive funnel conversion issues.

Collaborate with the development team to track and resolve data quality issues or discrepancies.

Support the development of data products and tools to facilitate self-service and enable analytics to scale across the company.

Provide technical expertise in extracting, integrating, and analyzing critical data.

Design and optimize back-end systems (MS SQL Server, Snowflake) for the ETL processes

API services development and enhancement
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
-
Experience using ETL framework (ex: Airflow, Dataiku, Flume, Oozie etc.) to build and deploy production-quality ETL pipelines

Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets to identify gaps and inconsistencies, provide data insights, and advance effective product solutions

Working knowledge of relational databases and expertise in query authoring (SQL) on large datasets

3+ years of experience with Python or similar programming languages.

Experience working with reporting and visualization tools (Tableau preferred, experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, etc and experience working with Git and Jira (or other source control and task management tools)

Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability and confidence to succinctly convey complex information to senior management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

Expert in Python programming to write production-ready codes. Strong data profiling, cleaning, mining, and technical documentation skills

Strong knowledge of Java, JavaScript, MS SQL, Snowflake, and data model design and understanding and passion for machine learning/AI

Experience with agile methodology and working in agile team. Critical thinker, creative problem solver. Data-driven approach

Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated drive for operational solutions and improvement

Proven professional with organized and detail-oriented work practices. Strong and supportive team player, experience on working on fast passed environment
Nice-to-have

Understanding and passion for machine learning/AI

Experience working with at least one of Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and/or other DBMS platforms

Experience with agile methodology and working in agile team

Great analytical skills and familiarity with financial services industry, IT Risk
