About the team and the role:

The mission of the Developer Ecosystem team is to be the platform of choice for global commerce powered by a best-in-class public API portfolio and an extraordinary developer experience.  Our team is all about APIs - the “secret sauce” of modern technology companies.  This role is instrumental in building eBay’s external developer platform, which annually drives over $25B in Gross Merchandise Sold and over $3B in Gross Merchandise Bought.  We support all of our public APIs while working with external developers, partners, and internal development teams.

We are hiring an experienced Lead Product Manager to help specify, prioritize, and drive a variety of API product development efforts across our team.  This is a high-impact leadership role that will collaborate with most organizations within eBay and important external customers via technical support, events, conferences, advisory councils, etc. You will personally lead several critically important efforts, from working with our program management and engineering team on a variety of products, to supporting key company-wide development initiatives and programs.

What you will accomplish:

  • Build a comprehensive public API product vision and strategy; optimally champion a market-informed product strategy that aligns to our eBay corporate strategy.

  • Analyze market trends, leverage user research and use data-driven insights to inform public API product decisions, drive strategic investments and build compelling cases.

  • Craft a compelling multi-year public API roadmap and launch plan to deliver tangible outcomes for our developers, hit their success metrics, and support eBay’s business growth goals.

  • Lead the complete end-to-end execution of multiple public API products; inspire extraordinary product development teams to deliver high-quality products in an iterative way that delights our developer customers;

  • Break down silos and create connections across teams that will drive efficient collaboration and clear alignment around our public API initiatives.

  • Lead post-launch initiatives to optimize public API product performance, capture customer feedback, and leverage this data to drive continuous improvement.

What you will bring:

  • 9+ years of experience in Product Management

  • 6+ years of experience building public-facing APIs and / or leading API heavy product development life cycles.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical or business field is required; advanced degree (MBA, MS) is a plus.

  • Deep expertise in customer-focused product management with a steadfast aim to improve the developer experience and constantly set the standard on quality.

  • A clear track record of driving complex, multi-phase product development efforts in a matrixed org involving multiple partners, time zones, business functions, and technical platforms.

  • A broad, strong technical foundation with the ability to understand APIs, platforms, software and hardware engineering, architecture, and systems discussions.

  • Experience with online marketplaces and eCommerce platforms is preferred.
