Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Lead QA Automation Engineer to lead our Quality Assurance efforts across a portfolio of modern and legacy web applications and backend services. Our ideal candidate has proven experience automating legacy systems and expertise with Playwright and TypeScript. This role is ideal for someone with deep test automation expertise in Java and JavaScript, solid QA experience, and a passion for improving quality in complex, evolving systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a high-performing QA team, focusing on skill development, ownership, and collaboration.
- Define and execute the QA strategy for both legacy and modern web applications and backend systems.
- Build and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using Java and JavaScript.
- Evaluate and incrementally improve the testability of legacy systems with minimal disruption to production workflows.
- Increase automated and manual test coverage across codebases with limited documentation or historical QA investment.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and DevOps to embed quality into the software development lifecycle.
- Guide risk-based testing strategies and drive test planning for legacy system refactoring and modernization.
- Continuously monitor and improve QA metrics, tooling, and processes.
- Advocate for and implement best practices in quality assurance across the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in test automation development using Java and JavaScript with frameworks such as Selenium and Playwright (required)
- 3+ years of experience in QA team management, including hiring, coaching, and project leadership.
- Experience working with and improving legacy systems, including adapting modern QA practices to older codebases and architectures.
- Strong knowledge of QA tools and test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, FRproof, TestNG, JUnit).
- Expertise with TypeScript.
- Proven ability to develop test strategies for systems with limited documentation, technical debt, or existing test coverage.
- Experience testing web applications and backend APIs/services.
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating test automation into deployment workflows.
- Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience utilizing GenAI/LLMs for test development.
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid development environments.
- Exposure to mobile testing is a plus.
- Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling).
