Come Dream with Us at Hatch

There’s nothing like a great night’s sleep—the cozy, wrapped-up-in-a-heavy-blanket kind of sleep. The fire-crackling, curtains-drawn, DO NOT DISTURB kind of sleep. You know, the good stuff.

But here’s the thing: while 85% of people agree sleep is the key to their well-being, more than half are unsatisfied with their own. Whether it’s stress, interruptions, work, or little ones waking in the night, so many people need help getting truly restorative rest.

That’s where we come in. At Hatch, we’re on a mission to help people build better sleep habits—so they can feel more focused, energized, and present in their lives. We’ve designed best-in-class smart sleep devices, paired with science-backed sleep content, to help people unwind nightly, sleep deeply, and wake gently. More than 5 million sleepers of all ages have made space for rest with Hatch, with our baby products in 1 in 3 nurseries and our adult product, Restore, taking over nightstands (and TikTok) worldwide.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead UX Designer with a passion for creating simple and delightful product experiences, a curious mind, and a depth of experience in designing for mobile.

Join our growing team as we dream up new experiences that leverage our unique ecosystem of hardware, software, and content; working to define the sleep space as an essential part of overall health and wellness. As a Lead UX Designer, you’ll play an essential role guiding our teams towards more seamless product experiences, keeping our customers at the center of every decision we make.

We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mind who can quickly storyboard future experiences and design scrappy prototypes to inform new product opportunities for our adult sleep service portfolio – all while collaborating cross functionally to bring insight-driven experiences to life.

What You’ll Do

Within 3 Months:

  • Build a solid understanding of our prototyping research efforts to date and current product ecosystem.
  • Form strong collaborative relationships across the design team, research function, PMs, and engineering teams.
  • Develop a plan in partnership with the Kids UX Lead and Senior Director of Research to evolve and improve our current design process, raising the bar for UX best practices.
  • This role will focus on improving and expanding on our adult sleep service and products. The products are primarily digital and delivered through our physical product and content experiences.
  • Understand the Hatch Brand, our unique tone of voice and expertise.
  • Work alongside our Product Designers to develop clear product insights and strategy through ongoing usability testing and other research efforts.
  • Implement usability tests to validate designs and use insights to iterate design.

Within 6 Months:

  • See your work come to life as we constantly improve and update our products.
  • Develop prototypes at varying levels of fidelity for user testing throughout the product development process.
  • Lead directional research and iterative sprints through Figma prototypes, smoke and mirror research, value propositions, storyboarding, usability testing, scaled proof of concepts and more.
  • Become an advocate and resource for more seamless and consistent user experiences across our ongoing product development efforts.
  • Be comfortable in a facilitator role, engaging multiple stakeholders about your experience vision throughout your work

After 1 Year:

  • Inform the launch of a new to the world product that helps people develop healthier sleep habits in collaboration with design, product, and engineering teams.
  • Identify brand-aligned white space and find product market fit by understanding our customers, the market, our brand and the competitive landscape.
  • Push for the insights that matter most for our business, know when a project hasn’t gotten there yet and how to pivot to ensure the required insights are uncovered.
  • Continue to build confidence through rapid iteration, tangible prototyping and continuous research with customers.
  • Actively contribute to infusing creativity, play, and learning into our team culture.

Who you are

  • Strategic and business minded— You see connections across projects and programs, you’re quick to filter the learnings that do and don’t have business impact. You have a strong product sense for what will drive revenue and value.
  • Entrepreneurial— You see opportunities others don’t and are driven to make them real. You are a self starter and balance visionary thinking with proven business results. You’re comfortable taking risks and have confidence in your process to support the risk.
  • Collaborative—This is a highly cross functional role. Success for this role will be measured on how well the final solution delivers on the original intent; ownership of the execution with be shared with experts in the content and digital product / UX teams
  • Humble and relationship oriented— You believe in building up those around you and you know the end result is better when it builds on the work of many. You know how to establish and nurture relationships with all types of people.
  • Process oriented— You‘re always looking to improve the way you and the team work. You know how to flex your toolkit when needed, but prefer to establish a predictable and repeatable process.
  • Passionate— You care deeply about supporting sleep wellness as an ally in rest to our customers
  • Organized and a clear communicator—You are skilled at structured and complete communication, and you are comfortable articulating what needs to be done when things are ambiguous.

What You’ll Bring

  • Passion for creating delightful, human-centered, product experiences.
  • 5+ years of mobile UX design experience with a strong portfolio showcasing your abilities and imagination.
  • Significant experience applying core digital UX design tools: Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing programs and adept at jumping between high level strategy and tactical execution
  • Demonstrated experience developing journey maps, storyboards, and wireframes.
  • A solid understanding of UX and accessibility best practices for mobile.
  • Experience utilizing design research and your strong design sensibilities to transform customer needs and business goals into engaging mobile user experiences
  • Strong cross platform experience (iOS, Android)
  • Excitement about working in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Big bonus if you have experience in health & wellness, IoT product development, and employ a human-centered design approach
