As a member of the Satellite Operations engineering team, you will support ground RF and TT&C systems for the Telesat Lightspeed Landing Station (LS) Network. Specifically, you will implement, test & validate - and then maintain and optimize SatOps TT&C systems at the Lightspeed LS's through all mission phases of the constellation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Satellite Ground Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) systems
  • Support operations, troubleshooting and diagnosis of field-related issues in Lightspeed Landing Station RF systems and satellite network systems
  • Apply a system-level understanding of satellite RF communications (Ka-Band spread spectrum is an asset)
  • Work with Landing Station (LS) systems such as satellite tracking antennas, TT&C Modems, Antenna Control Units (ACUs), solid state amplifiers, antenna motors, resolvers, LNAs/BUCs, encoders, 3-phase power, signal routing, and fiber optics
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of network communications and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Test, troubleshoot, commission, and provide ongoing support for satellite ground TT&C systems and components
  • Working with LS team, support installation, commissioning, and integration of TT&C systems
  • Support to Landing Station and antenna testing when they are configured for TT&C
  • Interpret procedures, data sheets, surveys, wiring diagrams and bulletins.
  • Perform rack integration, cable fabrication and terminations
  • Optimize LS TT&C enabled antennas by conducting performance tests such as antenna patterns, G/T measurements, calibrations, functional assessments, RF leakage tests, connector types and performance, antenna photogrammetry, VSWR analysis and reduction.
  • Monitor and report on contractor work quality
  • Configure and test IP-based network equipment and peripherals
  • Develop product documentation to support training, maintenance, and operations using common desktop PC tools (ie. Microsoft Office, Linux, etc.)
  • Security associated with TT&C systems (physical, network, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology or a related technical field, or may substitute 5 years of experience in test engineering or a technician role focused on antennas and RF systems (experience with LEO tracking antennas is a plus).
  • Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance is required; specifically, CGP.
  • Experience in satellite attitude and orbit control systems.
  • Experience in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, and implementation in satellite systems and their applications.
  • Experience in software development.
  • Possess strong trouble-shooting skills
  • Possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • The capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Understanding of LEO orbit fundamentals is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily work out of Ottawa, HQD
  • Nominally, core business hours (M-F 9-5)
  • Requires after hours on-call support
  • Requires some travel (to TT&C vendor facility and/or LS sites for TT&C systems deployment and testing)

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Control Good Program (CGP).
