Job Description

We are looking for a talented Manager, Software Development to join our growing global team at Sectigo.

The Manager, Software Development leads a team of software engineers in building secure, scalable, and high-performing applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in application development (PHP, Ruby, Golang, cloud deployments) best practices and a solid understanding of SSL/TLS certificates, private keys, and secure communication principles. This role combines technical leadership with strategic oversight to ensure the delivery of robust and secure solutions. 

This is a full-time position, working in a hybrid model, and reporting to our Ottawa office at least 3-4 days a week. The compensation range for this role is between CAD 142,000 and CAD 165,000, subject upon internal equity and years of experience.  We may make further adjustments through an approval process if the targeted compensation range needs to be modified based on business needs and market trends.

Here are the core functions, responsibilities, and expectations for this role: 

Team Leadership  

  • Lead, mentor, and develop small teams of software engineers. 
  • Provide updates to stakeholders and input on team’s progress. 
  • Guide the various services and products to be user-oriented. 
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.  
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables.  

Application Development  

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade applications.  
  • Ensure adherence to secure coding practices, design patterns, and industry standards.  
  • Collaborate with security teams to align application architecture with compliance and security requirements.  
  • Drive adoption of modern frameworks, tools, and methodologies.  

Stakeholder Collaboration  

  • Work closely with product managers, architects, and QA teams to align technical solutions with business goals.  
  • Ensure application features provide value to customers  
  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively. 

Additional tasks associated with this position may be assigned in response to company initiatives and business needs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field is strongly recommended. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years in software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role is required. 
  • Experienced in cloud deployments of mature PHP and Ruby applications. 
  • Experienced with web applications (HTML/JS/CSS) and modern front end development. 
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, AWS in particular. 
  • Strong understanding of SSL/TLS concepts, certificate chains, and private key management principles.  
  • Proven experience implementing secure application architectures.

  • Strong verbal & written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to interface with a diverse set of audiences.   
  • Willing to take direction while also bringing new and innovative ideas to the team.   
  • Motivated, resourceful, and eager to make an impact.   
  • Strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices, SQL, and back-end concepts.   
  • Ability to work in both a self-directed and team environment to meet project goals and deliver results.
