Provide technical expertise for Telesat's IT and GEO infrastructure, focusing on implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems and networks.

Reporting to the Manager, Network Engineering, the incumbent provides the technical expertise required for the operation of Telesat’s IT and GEO infrastructure. The incumbent’s main focus is to implement, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot systems and networks that are integral in the Telesat’s day to day operations.
Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa.
Education and Experience required
- A Diploma or Degree in a relevant area of study with a preference for Computer Science together with demonstrated operational systems and network related experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in Information Technology (with a related University Degree) or minimum of eight years in Information
- Technology (with a three-year College Diploma).
- Good working knowledge of: Networking including HP (Comware 5 & 7), Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA & IOS, Aruba OS, Security and Infrastructure including firewalls, routers, switches, cloud networking, endpoint protection, IPSec VPN, encryption and security protocols,
- Cisco AnyConnect VPN, Palo Alto Global Protect VPN, Solarwinds Orion,
- Cisco Cube and QOS.
- Network architecture and design knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience in network automation using IaC (Infrastructure as Code)
- Demonstrated experience in applying technical expertise in large complex data centers with a variety of physical infrastructure (from analog BIX to Fiber optics).
- Experience working on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP or equivalent are a strong asset.
Specialized Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Good working knowledge of: Networking including HP (Comware 5 & 7), Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA & IOS, Aruba OS, Security and Infrastructure including firewalls, routers, switches, cloud networking, endpoint protection, IPSec VPN, encryption and security protocols,

- Cisco Cube and QOS.
Decision Making & Supervision
- Work under minimal supervision.
- Coordination with security team and network architect.
- Make decisions and recommendations requiring analysis and interpretation within established procedures.
- This role has no direct reports but will work and interact with disciplinary engineering and IT teams.
Working Conditions
- Ability to travel between 3 sites in the Ottawa-Gatineau area is required on a rotational basis (<15%)
- Ability to travel to an alternate data centre is required (<5%)
- No other business travel is anticipated.
- Occasional overtime required.
- Participate in group pager rotation.
