The Agile Programmable Optical Transport R&D organization is responsible for the development of world leading photonic hardware, photonic software and photonic system architecture.   Within this organization the Link Engineering team is responsible for development of models and tools that predict optical system performance and resolve efficient equipment provisioning for a diverse set of both future and deployed optical networks: Network that  range from transoceanic subsea cables, scaling all the way down to metro and data center interconnects.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed requirements for optical network design tools based on network equipment hardware capabilities, software features and application space knowledge
  • Participate in the underlying evolution of software architecture discussions and strategies
  • Assist in the integration of products and features across product portfolio to ensure excellent end to end user experience
  • Development of computationally efficient and accurate modeling tools that help design world class optical networks that drives the growth of artificial intelligence
  • Recommend equipment provisioning values and methods based on consideration of optical performance and ease of use
  • Collaborate and contribute link engineering know-how to help guide other R&D teams such as Tools software development, Network Equipment software and hardware development teams

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in physics or electrical engineering required, with advanced  optical communication content
  • Strong programming (C, Matlab, Python) and analytic skills
  • Comfortable working in linux, windows environment
  • Able to work and develop with dockerize container
  • Prior experience in network Planning or Optical Modeling tool development a plus
  • Excellent team worker with strong interpersonal skills

The job range for this position, in Canada, is as follows:

$71,600.00 - $114,400.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
