How You Will Contribute:
Our team helps to define the overall photonic system features and architectures, and the control strategies to make it work.
In this role you will set up optical transport systems in our lab and test out the features that our team designs, looking for any problems before we release the product to our customers. You will be encouraged to look for ways to improve the design and to start working on future product features. The work is very fast paced and varied and involves working with many other teams.

Perform end to end optical system testing of new software and hardware features

Raise tickets for issues found and work with the relevant teams to fix them

Generate and execute test plans, and report on progress

As your career progresses, there will be increasing levels of design work and customer interaction

Participate in group design meetings

Present work & results to internal and external teams for review and discussion

End user support and troubleshooting as required

Explaining how the product or specific features work to other internal groups or answering customer questions

Internal brainstorming discussions within our team to discuss solutions to problems or ideas for new features

Discussing fixes/changes/improvements with the hardware and software teams

Discussions & reviews with Product Line Management (the people on the business side of things)

Helping out the Product Verification teams

Help to set up demonstrations of new features on our system to be shown to customers

We have a huge role in determining how to ‘shape’ the product and making sure all the relevant teams are in the loop.
The Must Haves:
-
Masters degree in an electrical engineering or physics discipline with a specific interest in optics, photonics & telecommunications.

Familiar with the principles of fiber optic communication systems and optical components.

Understanding of optical propagation & impairments.

Knowledge of the principles of control loops is an asset

Experience with optical lab test equipment and measurement techniques.

Experience with modeling tools e.g. Matlab would be an asset.

Proven communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential.
Pay Range:
The annual salary range for this position is: $59,700 - $95,300 CAD.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
