The Opportunity

The Ethos Platform provides industry leading API hosting capabilities. Our solutions support high traffic, highly visible applications with immense amounts of data, numerous third-party integrations, and exciting scalability and performance problems.

The Engineering Manager on the Ethos API Platform NET SRE team will orchestrate a team of engineers who run our sophisticated infrastructure: specifically the API Gateway and our Kubernetes powered infrastructure. We're dedicated to: containerization, clusterization, performance, continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD), and pipeline automation. This team is uniquely positioned to make a measurable difference to Adobe's development culture, reputation and its bottom line!

The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of Kubernetes, networking and API management. The new leader should have an ability to drive complex and ambitious projects to conclusion and take end-to-end ownership of a complex service. Strong collaboration with other engineering teams and an ability to thrive under pressure are key skills required to succeed in this role. This individual should be self-motivated and have a passion for quality.

The Ethos Platform NET SRE team is geographically distributed and as such we rely heavily on tools like Slack and video conferencing. Our team is in San Franciso, San Jose, Lehi, Bucharest and Ottawa. International travel may be required.

What you'll Do

  • Understand our complex landscape and make engineering and staffing decisions to best serve our diverse internal-client base.
  • Lead projects to build, challenge, and secure our automated, multi-cloud, multi-tenant environments: in software, process, and infrastructure.
  • Drive continual improvements in our system to allow our internal users to self-debug and fix REST-based APIs and network connectivity.
  • Ensure the highest level of uptime and Quality of Service (QoS) for our customers through operational excellence. Coordinate incident and problem management while addressing VP-level leadership on an as-needed basis.
  • Plan and report your team's work on a per-sprint basis, while handling injections. You'll be expected to coordinate the workload of your 9-engineer team with three other teams running related services.

What you need to succeed

  • B.Sc. or higher in related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in software engineering, site reliability engineering, release engineering, and/or configuration management.
  • 2+ years managing or leading a team.
  • A strong understanding and extensive experience with scrum terminology and processes.
  • Experience with cloud service providers: Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS.
  • Familiarity with scripting, CICD systems, Linux, networking, containerization, REST-based APIs, Kubernetes and API Gateways.
  • An ability to coordinate and approve technical requirements documents, code reviews, service deployments and project plans.
  • Highly organized and able to balance multiple communication channels, schedules and meetings. Strong written and oral skills.
  • A schedule which allows you to regularly meet between 7AM and 10AM pacific time, or 9AM and noon eastern time.
