Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Platform Product Manager, Monetization owns the platform that powers our SaaS business and our strategy for large scale pricing and packaging updates for our existing sellers. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of our subscription products including: billing, subscription management experiences, reporting and administration, internal tooling, compliance, feature access control, and platform reliability. This is a highly visible role that provides an opportunity to oversee a critical driver of Square's monetization strategy.
As the Platform Product Manager, Monetization, you will oversee platform and product development from ideation through to creation and delivery. You will advocate for the voice of our sellers as well as 1st and 3rd party developers to build platform and user experiences that are not just reliable, scalable, and secure, but also create a competitive advantage for Square.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, analysts, marketers, and other cross-functional team members within the organization to ensure our products provide a remarkable, delightful experience. On any given day, your job may include researching seller feedback, analyzing seller data, building a new strategy, presenting to executive leadership, building new experiences, iterating on experiments, and planning or prioritizing initiatives. You will oversee the full stack product management of the platform, APIs, and user-experiences that empower internal teams and sellers with solutions to succeed.
You Will
  • Run your product like a business - define the vision, strategy, roadmap for your domain, grounded in clear objectives, metrics and the needs of our partnership teams and end customers.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, data science, design, marketing, sales, and multiple other partner product teams across Square to define roadmaps and deliver platform capabilities.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of your capabilities - from opportunity discovery and requirements definition through launch, adoption, and ongoing optimization - balancing new feature delivery with reliability, tech debt, and platform work.
  • Use data to improve platform performance: own KPIs and OKRs for your product domain, instrument the platform to measure them, and feed insights back into your roadmap and prioritization.
  • Drive cross-functional programs across Square, aligning priorities, sequencing work, clearly communicating progress and trade-offs.
  • Deeply understand our platform and capabilities, advise other partner teams on best practices and define solutions, and collaborate to implement solutions.

You Have
  • 8+ years of professional experience as a Product Manager for a platform, SaaS, and/or payments product.
  • Experience working with a high-performing team of software engineers, using AI and agile software development practices.
  • A system-thinking mindset and technical fluency that allow you to work closely with senior engineers, understand service architectures, and translate product goals into pragmatic technical requirements and trade-offs.
  • Ability to prioritize ruthlessly across KLO / run-the-business work, strategic platform investments, and new product enablement, using data and clear frameworks to make and communicate trade-offs.
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style with a track record of building strong partnerships across engineering, operations, finance, compliance, risk and partner product teams - especially in matrixed organizations.
  • The ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences and to drive alignment with senior stakeholders across Block.
  • A metrics-driven approach to decision-making; you are comfortable defining KPIs, digging into dashboards, and using both quantitative and qualitative insights to guide your roadmap.
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a bias for action - you are enthusiastic, move quickly while bringing others along, and care deeply about building resilient, long-lived infrastructure that earns our customers' trust.
  • Passion for Square's mission, with new technology and for solving complex problems.
