What You Will Do
Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex issues in customer PostgreSQL environments.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding and addressing their technical needs.
Plan and execute technical tasks to deliver timely, effective solutions.
Respond to incidents, focusing on maintaining performance, stability, and scalability.
Work in a fast-paced, distributed environment managing critical production systems.
Participate in an on-call rotation to support customers 24x7x365.
Travel occasionally for team meetings.
Communicate professionally and clearly with customers and team members.
Provide constructive internal and external feedback to improve processes.
What You Have Done
Technical Skills
4+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
Strong Linux system administration skills.
Proficient with SSH and key-based authentication.
Solid understanding of systems performance and troubleshooting.
Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals.
Experience with high availability (streaming replication, logical replication).
Strong SQL skills: query/schema optimization.
Familiarity with backup and HA strategies.
Understanding of connection poolers/proxies (e.g., PgBouncer).
Ability to troubleshoot methodically and think creatively when necessary.
Non-Technical Skills
Ability to assess customer and environment impact.
Familiarity with change management and incident handling processes.
Ability to follow and improve runbooks.
Good written English skills.
Capable of writing clear technical reports.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Positive, collaborative, and proactive attitude.
Eagerness to learn and grow.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
What Will Make You Stand Out:
Experience with Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM).
Kubernetes expertise.
Cloud or DBaaS experience.
Systems and network administration background.
Experience in a managed service provider model.
Familiarity with GitHub and collaborative code repositories.
Experience with Python or C/C++.
MySQL or MongoDB experience.
Working Hours
We operate on a Follow the Sun support model with four global shifts. This position covers the US West shift: (based in UTC time zone):
APAC shift: 12:30 AM – 6:30 AM UTC
EMEA shift: 6:30 AM – 12:30 PM UTC
US East shift: 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM UTC
US West shift: 6:30 PM – 12:30 AM UTC
Each team member is assigned on-call duties one weekend per month, covering 12 hours on Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday.
Some travel may be required for internal meetings.
